Match-up Notes

Atlanta Braves 65-45 (1st in NL EAST; 6.5 UP) -- Record vs. Opponent: 1-2

 Offensive Ranking (NL) .263 AVG (3), .337 OBP (2), .458 SLG (2), 169 HR (3), 382 XBH (4), 585 Runs (2)

 Pitching Rankings (NL)  4.31 ERA (5), .255 BAA (12), 934 SO (10), 406 BB (15), 1.39 WHIP (T-12), 4.57 FIP (12)

Cincinnati Reds 50-56 (4th in NL CENTRAL; 6.5 GB) -- Record vs. Opponent: 2-1

 Offensive Ranking (NL) .246 AVG (10), .315 OBP (12), .424 SLG (11), 145 HR (9), 321 XBH (13), 477 Runs (12)

 Pitching Rankings (NL)  4.02 ERA (3), .240 BAA (3), 1013 SO (3), 352 BB (7), 1.28 WHIP (2), 4.14 FIP (3)

The Braves capped off a productive road trip with an extra-innings 5-4 win against the Nationals, which saw them extend the NL East lead to 6.5 games over second-place Washington and 7 games over third-place Philadelphia. The front office obviously took notice of the bullpen's struggles, adding three right-handed relievers by the trade deadline. Plenty of reinforcements will be abound this weekend, as all three deadline additions are expected to suit up by Friday at the latest, while Dansby is expected to be activated from the IL on Saturday.

While the Reds scuffled out of the gate to start the second half, they are winners of their last three series and four of their last 5 games. In what was arguably the biggest deadline deal, Cincinnati acquired RHP Trevor Bauer from the Indians, while shipping out mercurial OF Yasiel Puig and Scott Moss to the Tribe and sending talented AA OF Taylor Trammell to the Padres. This certainly will not (most likely) propel the Reds to a playoff spot in 2019, it does allow them to turn an expiring contract [Puig] and a talented, yet currently scuffling prospect [Trammell] into a controllable arm with a tremendous ceiling (albeit with his own makeup concerns).

WHO'S HOT

Ender Inciarte .290 AVG, .952 OPS, 5 XBH, 8 RBI, 3 SB, 4/4 BB/K in 35 At-Bats since returning from the IL

Eugenio Suarez .289 AVG, 1.086 OPS, 15 XBH, 23 RBI, 8/35 BB/K for the month of July

WHO'S NOT

Luke Jackson 0-2, 13.50 ERA, 2.50 WHIP in 6 IP since the All-Star Break

Derek Dietrich .150 AVG, .606 OPS, 4 XBH, 3 RBI, 3/19 BB/K in 40 July At-Bats

INJURY NOTES

Jacob Webb was sent out on a rehab assignment (7/29) and has progressed to AAA

Dansby Swanson eligible to be activated on Saturday, August 3rd

I wonder if we would re-sign Winkler and put him back in AAA?

One question though,  both teams are showing 1-2 against the opponent... so who has the edge right now?

Ha. Thanks for catching that; now it's fixed!

Unfortunate for Walker. Would like to see him get a longer look with the big club.

He'll be back in a few weeks. I think he definitely has a future here

Greene is in town. He told reporters he was told to be ready for the 9th.

*every* 9th for the rest of the year!!!

I cannot tell you all how much better I feel about the Braves right now than I did 26 hours ago. I've been cringing about our bullpen since March.

DOB said Greene grew up a Braves fan. Favorite player was Chipper.  DOB also mentioned Greene "exudes swagger"

I love getting guys that grew up Braves fans. They just have that little bit more desire to lay it all out on the line!

Snitker said Melancon will get 6th or 7th depends on situation. Martin will be 8th, Greene 9th.

That's interesting but alright. I don't make the decisions.
