JD's homer was so huge. We couldn't have a war of attrition with the bullpen today, even against the woeful Nats.

JOSH TOMLIN IS THE GREATEST PITCHER OF ALL TIME

Should have his jersey put up next to Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux

It sucks for the nationals....... they have played the Braves 7 times in the span of a couple weeks and they have made up ZERO ground on the Braves.

That will weigh on you when you play so hard but  just tread water and not make up any ground on the team that you are chasing

That's definitely demoralizing for them. But fudge them!!

This is the 2nd time the Nats have battled back to tie us in the 9th for JD to rip their hearts out.

From a meta perspective, we can now say that we added JD for $23 million AND brought in four relievers for the bullpen.

It wasn't always fun, but going on the road and taking 4/6 from the Nats and Phillies is so huge. Especially with Markakis and Dansby out. Dansby will be back soon and the bullpen will look much different the next time we face either of them.

We are in a pretty good spot right now.

Don't forget adding guys like Tomlin and Blevins both of whom have done some great work for the Braves

Yeah they've been pretty decent.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2019-pitching.shtml

Tomlin's problem is he gives up a ton of homeruns and hits.

Blevins walks too many and also gives up too many hits for only being used as a situational guy.  But he keeps it in the ballpark and gets strikeouts too.  If he stops walking people he's fine.  If not, then he's going to just another liability for us.

Right now, it's pretty clear that Swarzak is our top reliever, and Tomlin, Blevins, Webb, and Newcomb are behind him, and then Jackson is behind them, if there even is a third tier, because he's close to being trash.  Walker is an unknown because barely any stats.  But he's already walked too many for only pitching 3 innings.

Everyone else is crap.  Touki, Minter, Parsons, Sobotka, Wilson, Wright, Dayton, Venters, Ynoa... all have been trash and/or walking machines.
