J.J. Wilcox leaves training camp field “limping severely”

Recommended Posts

Neas looked good to close last year, if he is somehow out of the running for 3rd/SS.

If Sheffield balls out and earns snaps in Nickel, could we see Kazee flexed to S in 3 Safety looks; Neal in the box...?

Sheffield could be Dime CB at least; depending on Blidi’s usage as boundary exclusively or slot. Same goes for Miller; whom I consider a 1 year stash for depth.

This. All of this. Neasman was the best safety on the team by the end of the year. He showed he's capable of playing snaps if needed. Also, like you said, if any of the nickels comes to play, you've got added depth from Kazee at safety again.

Limping severely could be any number of really minor things. How often have you seen a player limping severely in  game and coming back in a few plays later.

This. Sometimes the most harmless cramps on a football field initially look like a torn ACL. Remember Matt’s ankle being crushed against Detroit in 2012? We all thought he was out for the season and 4 plays later he’s throwing a TD.

Depends on if it was non-contact.

As far as limping 'severely' not usually. With 'severely' the staff tends to play it safe as far as in a game and keep the player out and then have then come back in a week or two.

When it comes to the same game maybe Neal.... and that was in his rookie season I think and then last season.... so a mixed bag

We already lost Steve Means as well, those that think we are going to magically get all our injured players back 100% and not have any new major injuries are deluding themselves. Hope we have enough depth this year to weather the strom.

100%? Not unreasonable to think that's a legit assumption, since most of them didn't even make it to October last year. New major injuries? None have happened yet. Injuries in general suck, but Means/Wilcox weren't Neal/Debo/Rico.

If we don't have guys that can step up for Means/Wilcox, we're in trouble before the injuries happened.

I think the last several years have shown the injuries add up. Sure these don't seem crippling but it chips away at the depth.

Then you get into the season and other players at the same position get banged up.... then you have a problem.
