Could we be interested in S Jalen Thompson

Recommended Posts

Twenty-six teams were on hand for Thompson’s workout including the director of scouting for the Houston Texans.  He measured 5103 and 186 pounds with hands at 8 3/8 inches and an arm length of 31 ¼ inches.

Thompson hit 33.5 inches in the vertical jump, 10-feet-4-inches in the broad jump and completed 11 reps on the bench press.  As I reported on twitter, his initial forty time came in around 4.47 seconds with his second clocking 4.56 seconds.

The other marks included 11.68 seconds in the 60-yard shuttle, 4.16 seconds in the short shuttle and 6.98 seconds in the three cone. The position drills were run primarily by the Atlanta Falcons, though other teams stepped in and requested specific drills.

I’ll add this part for anyone who doesn’t click the link

Thompson is meeting with the Green Bay Packers this afternoon as the team has shown a lot of interest in the safety.  Other teams lining up for Thompson included the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals.

The article said he was projecting as a 4th or later..  but more likely later since it is the supplemental draft.

how many times do these supplemental players pop in the NFL?   It seems like there has been at least one but not that many.

There have been 45 players selected in the National Football League supplemental draft since its inception in 1977.[1] The supplemental draft was enacted in 1977 for players who had various circumstances affect their eligibility and did not enter the main NFL draft. The only player selected in the supplemental draft to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame was Cris Carter, who was selected in 1987 and elected to the Hall of Fame in 2013. In addition, there have been eight players selected to Pro Bowlsin their careers: Bernie Kosar (drafted in 1985), Cris Carter (1987), Bobby Humphrey (1989), Rob Moore(1990), Mike Wahle (1998), Jamal Williams (1998), Ahmad Brooks (2006), and Josh Gordon (2012).

In 1984, the National Football League held a supplemental draft for college seniors who had already signed with either the United States Football League or the Canadian Football League. On June 5 in New York City, the draft was completed in an attempt to head off a bidding war in its own ranks for USFL and CFL players. Three players in this draft entered the Pro Football Hall of FameSteve YoungGary Zimmerman, and Reggie White.

I think we are high on Cooper and Wilcox behind Neal and Rico. I think Kazee would  become our Safety if Rico or Neal got hurt and we would ask a lot of Cooper, Wilcox, Wreh-Wilson, Sheffield or Miller to step in and be a competent Nickel. I am not sure this supplemental guy makes me feel any better though.

The only one I can think of in recent years is Josh Gordon.

......when he isn't popped for weed.

He's more of a drunk than a stoner though right?   Not that it matters now, from a football point anyways.  Sad.
