Sometimes A Picture Says It All

Gonna hijack your thread real quick because I was considering making a thread on this but decided against it.

Everyone here can agree to some degree it's weird we signed 2 guards and then drafted a guard at 14 since we can only start 2.

But what if there's more to it? Y'all remember this off-season we had a rumor someone was considering retirement but nothing ever came of it? What if that person was Mack? It would make this off-season make more sense.

We'd have depth this year at G while one sits and learns the system/progresses, then it would allow a line of

Matthews Carpenter Lindstrom Brown McGary

Next year. I like Lindstrom at G because of his mobility but what if this is what the team is thinking moving forward?

It’s a valid point.  I kind of thought the Fusco injury release proved your point.  If Fusco was healthy, our offseason was overkill.  You simply don’t need 5 starting OG’s on your team.  Even now with 4 it’s too much IMO...but I understand it.

If Mack were to leave next year the draft and FA makes sense completely

Definitely gonna be something to watch next off-season. I think he was considering retirement and decided to stay for one last year to acclimate the other lineman and try to get a ring.

I’d love two more years for Mack.  But I would not be surprised if this is his last year in Atlanta

Could also make sense if Ricardo Allen is gone next year.  Mack stays at center and Lindstrom plays FS.

Isn’t Wes the backup center though? Which of our other G can actually play C? We don’t want another Person situation...

I still think Wilkins or Oliver was the target. So we could not go into the draft with our OL a mess planning to draft DL.

Lindstorm was always the backup pick if we didn’t land one of those two.

There were a lot of comments during and after the draft by the experts that Lindstrom could easily slide over and play center. It was an odd thing to say considering he was drafted as a guard, but even his college coach said it was part of his skill set. What the Falcons ahve lacked is a solid back up center. That might have helped with the Super Bowl.

Anything is possible of course. All the team can focus on right now is this year.

Well, well, well....

Since you’re an outside the box thinker, can you explain why thaw and unthaw mean the same thing in American vernacular

unthaw

VERB

  • 1North American Melt or thaw.

Please,, don't even mention Mack retiring,, Don't say it again for two years at the very least.  We need Mack to help this awesome team to take this team deep into the playoffs.. we need him to help us get where we all want to be,,  Please,, Mack ,, if you reading this ,, Please give us two more years.. Just two.  He's one of the best O# lineman we have ever had.. Don't quit now that we will have a Good chance of bringing the Championship home.

BTW,, I don't think he will retire for at least another year. And I think even if he's considering to retire after this season,, When the team goes deep into the playoffs this year and maybe more, and he sees this is the best team he's ever played on,, I think he stays two more years,

A draft of Dexter Lawrence & McCoy in the first two rounds also made sense for the Falcons.  But if Lindstrom can indeed replace Mack at a Pro Bowl level the draft is a homerun

I think they liked Lawrence at bottom of the 1st not at 14 or they would have taken him. Might have traded back into the first for him

I was onboard with Lindstrom being a possible understudy to Mack. That said, it would be a shame if that had to become a thing by next TC, but at least we are prepared and that was pretty much the #1 goal this offseason:

Insurance across the OL.

Next offseason, or two, we will see the DL get right. Hoping DQ can make the most out of this year’s unit.

If so, and the OL balls out? Mack gonna either ride off into the sunset with a title or want to come back for one more.

It will be very interesting to see who wins the jobs and if everyone can keep their performance up and the backups on the bench this year. Before, we hoped to never see a backup. Now, we have options.
