Good post  hyped about stocker and newbs on o line

Come to think about it, with his size Quad could play FB.

There was a predraft thread that hot folks to wonder if there ever was ever gunna be another m Alstott. Conclusion was probably not but one of the close comps in this draft was quad.

I agree with this also.  I think the additions of Mularkey and Stocker are going t be huge for out offense.  I fully expect us to be a very physical and dominant at the LOS offense this year.

The only part I disagree with you on is when you said for the first time since 2010 defenses will hate playing our offense.  I am sure teams defenses dreaded having to play us in 2016.  I am sure our OL in particualr didn't strike fear in defenses and defensive lines, but the offense in general caused a lot of stress for opposing defenses.

Here is to our o line eventually striking fear. We all would love them to turn into bullies.

Which opposing DL was on the media talking about our o line?

This draft will make or break this coaching staff and front office. Offense better be top 3.

This o now has great expectations. I’m also excited to see it come together. But it’s with guarded optimism. There was also a lot of pre season hype or attention of us being contenders last year....

good point, I meant from a physical standpoint, so I added that clarification.  No question they didn't like playing us in 2016, because we were unstoppable.  This year it will be from getting beaten ON all game at LOS !

I think the team looked pretty good in that eagles game last year. Losing Debo and Neal at the same time was irreparable. But, I’m tired of guys like Fletcher Cox destroying our pocket. Hopefully this O-line is something fierce.

I can't recall the team that called out our OL for being soft, but it was after we lost Todd McClure.  McClure had a nasty streak, and you never did things like take a cheap shot at his QB without paying for it. Kenny Viccaro had a flagrant cheap shot on Ryan one game and none of our OL did anything. They were getting shoved around and tended to shrink instead of man up.

This 2019 OL group  all have a nasty, mean streak. They also can back it up with physicality.   McGary plays at 325lbs and he has almost no fat on him at all.  Kevin Shraeder was only 300lbs and he was carrying some bad weight.

Just trading out the smallish 300lb RT Shraeder for the mauler 325lb McGary who is in much better physical shape, much stronger and more talented, is a big change.

I think it was the Tennessee Titans during a workout in training camp who called our team soft

me too my brother......especially at the very time we need to make a play. Game on the line, 3rd and long or 3rd and 1, and the pocket gets destroyed by bigger DTs snuffing the drive. very, very, very frustrating.

We did look god especially being on the road. Just like the playoff game we were one play away at the end of the game with a **** to win it. I think most rational eagles fans know they dodged two bullets there. Lindstrom v Cox. Week 2. The OL better have their pads on for games one and 2. Speaking of, our first half of the year looks hella tough. If we make it out of that gauntlet....iron sharpens iron?

In past years, the Falcons have lacked identity and have struggled with the more physical teams with really strong lines. It was embarrassing at times having opposing DL mock our OL in the media for being soft.  We've all seen our OL get pushed around way too much in 3rd and long, or in short yardage situations, or simply dominated an entire game.

I think this ends in 2019.  Our identity is going to be hard nosed offense that can play smash mouth when needed. I think we will have an attitude up front that no defense is going to get the best of us. This will fit Matt Ryan's attitude perfectly, he's the toughest QB in the NFL IMO.

Irrespective of if you are a running or a passing offense, the identity on offense starts at the OL. We have a more physical, bigger, stronger OL group than we've had since 2012. If you recall, we targeted big, powerful, nasty OL.  Carpenter and Brown are great big hoss OGs who have nasty streaks and play through the whistle. We have Jake Matthews coming back playing better than he ever has, he's arrived. I absolutely love the Lindstrom pick. While Lindstrom isn't a mauler, he is strong, physical, nasty and plays all out every snap. No one is going to push Lindstrom around, and in pass protection allowed only a few pressures and ZERO sacks last year. Some people suggest Mack to a step back last year but I think it was more the pathetic OG and RT play that made it appear that way.  McGary is also a mauler, great big powerful RT who also is nasty, plays with a big chip on his shoulder. Nobody is going to push McGary around and I expect he'll be in lineup by no later than midseason before we start playing division and playoff games.

We also added Luke Stocker, who is a great blocking TE, but also can play FB. This is a 6'5", 253lb FB, bigger and faster than Ovie Mughelli was. We also now have Ollison, a 6'2", just under 230lb running back who can pound defenses, rip through tackles and break off long runs. When we need short yardage this year, I think we will be able to run it down any defenses throat we want to. Stocker also was coached by both Keotter and Mularkey. Hooper is also a big strong physical TE for a receiving specialist.

I think for the first time since 2010, NFL defenses are going to hate playing the Atlanta Falcons from the standpoint of physicality. We have a bunch of tough nosed guys up front. Defenses are going to get beat up and worn down.  I think we will have one of the most physical offenses we've ever had including the toughness of Ryan, Julio and Hooper. Speaking of Hooper, his TD numbers could double this year. He had 4 last year, I could see 7 or 8 this year.

This is especially exciting to me given DQ taking back over the defense. The entire team is going to have a new attitude. and both sides of ball will feed off each other.

Gazoo when are you going to be a beat writer for the Falcons man?  You were practically born for it lol. Great post man. I wish you and TDWII can go to camp together and litter the board with updates and your takes. IM DEAD SERIOUS! Anyways good post man. Im not as optimistic as you about the offense but im definitely looking forward to seeing Quinn finally take over to command a more competent defense regardless of injuries.

Been saying this since he was drafted. If they report that he’s going to add a few pounds, that would confirm it for me

Exactly what I thought about earlier. Lots have stocker playing fb when one is needed(which I think will happen). But, think of the beef of ollison at fb in 22 sets.

Yes and it speaks to Gazoo s earlier point about our offense wearing on teams. Ollison, stocker, and the line just go to work and grind that clock down.
