FalconsIn2012
Jonah Williams is done for the season. I feel for the young man, but he will return in full health next season. The real question is the Bengals: 8 of their 9 first round picks since 2012 have suffered season ending injury early in their careers. Then David Pollack & Odell Thurman a few years earlier I bet their 2020 1st Round Pick opts to sit out the season and get re-drafted in 2021 falconsd56, datboilando, PokerSteve and 1 other
Farmer2
I get injuries happen, but I have to believe their problems all stem from an owner not willing to open up the check book.

Even though they played him out of position, he was turning into the beast he was in Athens before the neck injury thamill
V-Town Falcon
I hate that happened to Johan. Before the draft started, I was thinking that if we did go offensive line, he would've been my pick.

There are different types of knee injuries, an ACL, an MCL etc, but Jerrys was one of the worst kinds you can have. It robbed him of his exceptional first step explosion and power. FalconAge
Did the injury occur before the draft? If not, this thread is a silly premise. cwell1, CrimsonFalcon and NeonDeion
federicofalcon2
Technically we didn't pass on him, but I read rumors that if someone had taken him before the bengals did, Lindstrom was next on their list. So thankfully they took Williams, allowing us to take arguably the best G in this draft, all without having to give up capital and him falling to us, which, essentially we ended up using that capital to trade back up for Kaleb. When has not having a swing tackle proved costly to the Falcons recently? And people on here have mentioned Gono was making very nice strides last year so he could fill the role. Wetzel is another capable option If they gave us a 3rd round pick for Ty it would be a boon. We are likely cutting him after the season. His CAP hit is 6 million which is too much for a backup. So why not bet on Gono and actually get something from Ty rather than simply cutting him next year. It all assumes Kaleb is the clear starter and Cincy would give a 3rd for Ty. Neither of which are certainties. And the Matthews argument is not relevant. Ty isn’t a LT and neither is Kaleb. It would go to Gono/Wetzel But it’s a hypothetical so take it for what it is. LeoAz93
Wasn't a huge fan of Jonah coming into the draft but the injury is unfortunate for him, Definitely would've been demoralizing for the Falcons, as a team in win now mode cant afford to have your top selection shelved for a season. Snafu
Just because he got hurt there, doesn't mean he would have gotten hurt here. I'm glad we passed on him because I honestly dont believe he's going to be a very good player...injury or not. MasterBateser

This injury, or at least serious shoulder instability, likely predates the draft. See the cap in this pic?
PokerSteve
Sad for him, and it can still happen to any one, or any two or three of our players between now and start of the season. Nothing you can do but hope we escape the random injury curse we didn't avoid last year. FalconsIn2012
