g-dawg
I realize the Hawks have ZERO chance of signing Kawhi this year - not enough money for max deal for anyone and timing not right plus Kawhi not interested in Atlanta right now anyway - so that is three strikes/Hawks out. However read below.....If Kawhi signs two year deal w/ player option for 3rd year - that might give Schlenk/Hawks a chance in 2021. Where will Kawhi Leonard play next season? The NBA Finals MVP is tough to read, but our panel now predicts a Toronto Raptors return as most likely. In February, the Clippers got 66.7% of the vote. Wherever he ends up, pay attention to the number of years on Leonard's next contract. A two-year deal (maybe with a player option) would let him hit the market again with 10 years of service, and he then would be able to earn significantly more long-term money. Forecast Results TEAM VOTE (%) 1. Toronto Raptors 66.7 2. LA Clippers 33.
g-dawg
Only problem with getting Kawhi in two years would be he will be 30yrs old.

That and the fact that Kawhi has a history of being injured. I hope it wouldn't be a case similar to how D.Wade's body broke down due to injuries taking a toll on him as he got to his 30's. g-dawg
Guest
I'm still saying this now if I'm Kwahi why leave a city that literally now loves me, and I can't do anything wrong? Especially a city that had no prior big name legend. Basically to Toronto he is Micheal Jordan.

Maybe he hates wearing gloves and a tunic? Maybe he is tired of busting his *** on black ice? Maybe he’s not a fan of ice fishing? Maybe Kawhi gets perturbed by the phrase “Eh?” TheTrue7

He can go Polar bear bowling then Well I need Canadian bacon eh!

I don’t believe Kawhi feels bound at all to Toronto. We have already seen Kawhi change teams three times. He is not easily influenced and he had already won another NBA Finals somewhere else - it likely all comes down to where does he want to live? Wherever he goes, said team will have a good shot at the Finals. Especially if he goes to Lakers. Kawhi has already left $80mm on table. Probably looking for two year deal and then opt out for Supermax in 2021 and his last contract then.

Guest
Yeah my theory is that Kwahi did want to go to the Lakers, but no one wants to play with Lebron anymore. They've seen how he's done the teams, and what happens when he leaves. Edit: no matter what happens in next 3 years if Lebron retires I could see Paul George and Kwahi Flip to Lakers that's my theory. Yep GM Lebron would've left Kawhi and AD with a team in cap **** and no picks for a couple of years.

It has to be a blow to his ego. But when you simply swing from team to team, why would anyone invest in playing with you long term. Dude will probably be playing for the Chinese National Team in 2 years to further build his global brand DonDaLuvMaker

GEORGIAfan
I don't think it was about joining the Lakers. In 2 years Kawhi will be eligible for the 35% max with 8% raises. It was a pure money move. g-dawg, DonDaLuvMaker and PapaJoe

Yea, but he would still get more money with the clippers and it is his childhood city. I don't think Kawhi is going to ring chase to come here. 6 hours ago, Zone#7 said: That's probably also the case, but make no mistake no one wants to play with Lebron. Some still respect him, while others want the throne. Plus Lebron never gets the blame for lack of success and gets the bulk of the credit. Kyrie made amends and still Lakers were never on the radar. g-dawg

They will be good with George and Kawhi paired up with whomever over the years; both will get PAID; may win a ring/may not; play in SoCal/home. Hawks need to stay the course of what Schlenk is doing and see what happens down the road; draft well, collect assets, develop the team core, then see what FA move could be viable. Hawks are likely 3 seasons away from being legitimate title contender, if then. GEORGIAfan
