Potential cuts.

Recommended Posts

Here is the article on the three surprising potential cuts from the Falcons. I will have to say watching Duke Riley for the last 2 years I can't see that one being a surprise. I'm not surprised that Grace is outplaying him either.

Anyone here think Duke wasn't a bust?

Meh, Grace outplayed Riley all during 2017 training camp as well.

Hardy and Ishmael are in the bad position of not being full-time every down starters, and having to compete against younger guys on rookie deals while they are on their 2nd contracts.

Ishmael is a tough cut because he is cheap ($895k) and can play multiple positions. Hardy is even cheaper and has backup and special teams value.

So I guess, yeah either of these would be a surprise (to me anyways).

No it doesn't.

You do not know if it were a reach or not.

It certainly looks like one at this point. 3rd rounders are usually intended to be groomed for starting positions. That said the draft is not a science, and Duke had some measurables that I am sure Quinn thought he could mold something out of. It didn't happen, and I don't judge Quinn/TD harshly for it because that same mindset got us players like Debo, Foye, and Kazee.

I wouldn’t go that far.

To me anything past 2nd is a crap shoot.

Even in the first or second it is a crap shoot....but by the third generally every one has passed on a guy atleast twice.

When everyone has passed on you twice.....in sone cases more....can you really be considered a bust if you do not play well??

The draft is a crap shoot period. But to say most 3rd rounders can’t play worth a lick is a plain lie. In today’s nfl, most 3rd rounders are starting.

Instead of getting caught up in definitions, isn’t it easier to just say Duke was a bad pick; at least until now?

What hurt was we moved up for Takk and really needed Duke to make up for that cost.

The silver lining is we only needed a 6th rounder (Foye) to replace what Duke should’ve been; just missed on others by taking Duke where we did.

That said, it happens to every single team; regardless of the round.

PS: A bust is a pick with huge expectations and invested in with higher resources; first rounder etc. I think a 3rd rounder is just a bad pick if it doesn’t work out.
