This makes me think LBer could be the first pick next year

Friday night, Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell told the media that he believed a team would’ve taken Duval’s latest draftee, Quincy Williams, in the fourth-round, which is why he snagged the former Murray State Racer late in the third. A day later, it appears that might have been a true statement as it was revealed several other teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and more liked what they saw from the young linebacker. It was also revealed that the Atlanta Falcons almost traded up for him, despite his small school label.

Williams, 22, is the younger brother of the New York Jets’ first-round pick Quinnen Williams, who many regarded as the best prospect in the draft. Evidently, good athletic genes run through the family as Quincy was a solid player, too, leading Murray State in tackles in 2018 with 82, which was also good for second in the Ohio Valley conference. On film, it appears he brought the hammer often and established himself as the team’s enforcer, which seemingly caught the eyes of many.

Williams will join a Jags linebacking corps which already has a former Pro Bowler in Telvin Smith at the weak-side linebacker position and Myles Jack in the middle. Needless to say, the young rookie couldn’t have two better veterans to learn from, which can hopefully make his transition from a smaller program easier than it would be with another team.

Yeah it's early and depend on what we do in FA, but looking at our roster and the fact that Campbell will be a FA, I believe LBer is a good possibility round 1. We look good at every position besides maybe DT. And this looks like a weak DT class. If we get a DT in FA, we could get a stud LBer first round.

Right now it looks like more 1st rd LBer to choose from. Names like Simmons, Moses, Phillips, Queen, and Murray. I really like Simmons, Phillips, and Queen. And we love those LSU Lber's.

There’s probably interest in a LB, but I highly doubt in the first. For a team who employs the nickel package (2 linebackers: MLB/WLB) about 70% of the time, the Falcons aren’t at an immediate need at the position. They’ve got Deion Jones, who I can't imagine they would let walk easily and Foye Oluokun, who has taken off season strides. DeVondre is mainly a base SLB & a pass rusher in a sub package. For what it’s worth, a SLB in this system is probably a round 4-6 value. I’m thinking it’ll be a DE early or a 3 technique defensive tackle that the Falcons can use as a cornerstone along with GJ, as compared to rentals like Davison, and probably Crawford too. Need to build the future on the DL. Must add to Senat and Grady.

The team is grossly thin at 4-3 DE. If we see a switch to a 3-4 base, which is possible, the team may be looking for a starting 4T aside from Grady. But for now, I see McKinley taking the next step and the front office being scared of Beasley’s inconsistency and non-transparent contract.

I think you have the pieces currently to be able to play that 34 set of looks, but if the Falcons do lose Campbell this offseason I could see them going after a linebacker anywhere from the 1st to the 3rd round.

And this coming draft would be a great spot to touch on not only a 34 defensive end but also another linebackers / pass-rush specialist.

But if the Falcons stay true to the 43 under they are going to be grossly understaffed at DE. This of course may come to bite them in the butt with no true big men on the outside.

IF we are switching to a 3-4 base, then its more likely to select an early LB because Campbell is indeed an ILB starter in the 3-4. Let's look at the Falcons interest in Devin Bush. Some say he's a glorified 3-4 SLB. Hmmmm
