iDash
Durant underwent "successful" surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon. The Golden State Warriors star forward will have a long road to recovery, Durant could sign the player option $31 million to stay a Golden State Warrior to recover! Durant opts into his deal, the money that was expected to go to Klay now goes to Durant and the Warriors, unfortunately, lose their sharpshooting two guard. The Warriors will be sitting around $10 million over the cap before even turning their attention to Klay Thompson. Warriors can still TECHNICALLY offer Thompson a max salary in this situation (shout out Bird Rights) but they would incur what would be one of, if not THE, biggest luxury tax penalty in the history of the sport. “If the Warriors don’t immediately offer Thompson a max contract of five years and about $190 million, I’m told he will listen to free-agent pitches from other teams. And if that happens, the Hawks are confident they’d get a chance to persuade Thompson to sign with them.” Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk is familiar with Thompson, having served as Warriors assistant GM before he moved to Atlanta. Schlenk was actually with the Dubs when they selected Thompson in the 2011 NBA Draft, and he reportedly told Atlanta back in 2017 that he will make a run at Klay when he hits free agency. “They’re young, you got to give them some time. I love coach Lloyd, I think he puts in place a great system. Obviously they have Trae Young, who nears what Steph can do, not at the level he can do it at yet, but give a guy some time, he’s only 20 years old.”said Thompson Also, New York Post reports that the Knicks still plan to offer Durant a max contract even with a severe injury.
