JD dirtybird21
We've moved on. Vick has moved on. We are cool with him. He's cool with us. I can dig that. FalconsIn2012, VTCrunkler, Geneaut and 3 others
Alomar
Look at it this way, we owe Vick a debt of gratitude. If we didn't release him, Matt Ryan wouldn't be a Falcon! Bigbenright, 4dabirds, papachaz and 7 others
capologist
I was scrolling through the football trade rumors site and this story popped up. Hard for me to believe it's been that long.

1989Fan
Had the news about Vick broke a bit sooner we would have kept Schaub, which would have really changed history between Pigtrino, not drafting Ryan, which could have gotten TD fired, etc....such a ripple effect. VTCrunkler
And forthcoming is the 10 year anniversary of quitter quitting on the falcons and leaving a note in the locker room. I wish it never ended that way either but I credit the guy for taking ownership of it and coming back from it even if it wasn't with us. I will always appreciate how he electrified this franchise. I remember it being 3 and 10+ numerous times and thinking, "we're about to get a first down". I truly believe he revolutionized the modern QB position, getting GMs and coaches to buy into the fact that they could win big with a mobile QB rather than just seeing them as a gimmick or trick play pony, and paved the way for Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, etc. Vandy, Dungeon Family and E. Yes. I never thought Vick as a leader. I was distraught when they traded Schaub.

If the Falcons had kept Schaub, I don't think Petrino leaves and stays Falcons HC at least for a little bit longer because they wouldn't have been as bad(but still not that good). Schaub was much better than the Harrington/Leftwich suckfest. He actually started off looking like a pretty decent QB once he got his 1st full season as a starter under him. Only until he let those string of pick 6 games throw him off mentally he started to lose confidence around the end of his tenure in Houston and was never the same. TD probably would've never became Falcons GM as McKay would've probably had a bit longer leash.
BlazerSlayer
Schaub played very well for a few seasons in Houston. Hard to know if Petrino would have stayed longer. He might have, but he did alienate a lot of players in that 2007 season. A terrible year for Atlanta, although special mention (imo) to 2013 when I thought we'd be good and ended up 4-12. metatron360
I was upset when Vick was sentenced ro prison, I was hoping you know as a 20 something he would study and come back then be better than ever. We had that season and redman was not horrible. I can't even imagine a team picking up a street guy to run a program now. But seriously I have seen worse. After Harrington lefwitch Redman was ok. Kinda shows me some guys should get more chances. Crazy time. The draft was there and I couldn't even think but I definitely didn't want the DT sleeper lots if ppl wanted. But I didn't want a qb either . Honestly i leaned more to QB but I knew that would be it for Vick. That first pass against the Lions I was happy. No one gave us a chance in that game. Then I was ok we are good, I hoped Vick would also do good when he cane back. Then he signed with the eagles, after that I couldn't root for him after the eagles spanking us in the NFC championship and regular season. It was my most hated team. Then in garbage time he came in to beat us in his first action since he left. That could have crushed alot of QBs and teams . I hated Vick for a while after that. Took till he went to Pittsburgh for me to block those memories. That said. He does support Atlanta. He doesn't talk bad about anyone. He is loved again. But the Philly thing will always peeve me off. Any team any but Philly no freaking way. It's over and I can watch him again in a falcons uniform, all time falcons great no doubt, he was our guy. But Ryan is so much better of a qb and I guess that helps me forget all the bad. We are very lucky

He took the shot that was given to him. I couldn't stand the Eagles back then either but it's hard to fault a guy that lost everything and took the only offer he was given.
