Question for Moderators

Recommended Posts

First of all, thank you for what you do to help make this site as good as it is.

I have a suggestion that I want to put out for you (the Moderators) to think about and see if it is a viable option. Many of us have long been fans of Tandy, a long time poster here, along with her husband Nito. In a thread entitled “I need the help of my Atlanta friends” that is still on the front page, Tandy shared with the board the health concerns she has for her husband.

Would it be possible to have a separate forum for those of us who would like to share prayer requests, encouragement and things like that so that those of us on the board who are concerned about this in addition to football can do so without bothering those who don’t and who prefer to come to a place where they can just discuss football. (Wow, that was a looong run on sentence lol) Basically, this would be a place where those of us who believe in prayer can share prayer requests and needs, pray and encourage each other without disturbing people who only come here for football. A separate forum would accomplish this I believe.

In the meantime, to those who read this, please check out Tandy’s thread and, if you feel led to do so, reach out to her with encouragement. Mods, thank you for considering this suggestion.

Even though I'm not the praying type, I do believe in the power of heartfelt support from other people. I come here for the insightful posts about our Falcons, but would never be offended or bothered by other posters in need of support.

I don't believe, we need a separate forum for this. If Falcons fans in need of support can't reach out to other Falcons fans on a board like this, what is the idea of having a fan forum?.

In my idea of a perfect world, a separate forum would not be necessary. However, after being on these boards for nearly 20 years, I have observed that some people are very open to prayer, support, encouragement etc while some others are football purists and come here just for football or perhaps they simply don’t believe the same way that others do. A separate forum, in theory anyway, should give those who want to get involved by praying or helping a forum in which to do that without cluttering up the “Talk About the Falcons” forum thereby keeping that forum for Falcons discussions. I have seen many times on these boards where a post that mentions God, faith, prayers etc ends up including posts that escalate into disagreements and sometimes even arguments.

With a separate forum, much like “Anything But Football” people who do not believe that way or who just want to see Falcons or football posts can do so by staying in the “football only” forums  and people who enjoy both topics can do so by going to the forum of their choice. It would have no impact on TATF but might be a good way to better serve both sides of this issue. It’s just a thought, but it would probably be pretty easy to do and the ones who want to use it can while others who choose not to use it don’t have to. Just a thought. In the meantime, please keep Tandy and Nito in your prayers. Thanks.

As long as we don't have to go to 'Anything But Football'.

I spent WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY too much time over there years ago, and

if I had my druthers I'd sooner stick my head in a septic tank than visit that mess again.

Why not?

Come home.

................we miss you

As a mod, I will say less is more. The death of many message boards is the oversaturation of subforums.

I’m proudly religious and love where you’re coming from, but my recommendation is to keep it here and the moderators will gladly abide.

Agreed. Also in TATF it'll be seen by more.

So maybe pin it? But that's up to yall and Tandy.

Personally, I don't think the way to deal with different beliefs is segregation. It is instead, toleration. If someone isn't a believer in faith or prayer, then they just stay out of a thread like Tandy's. If they choose to go there just to stir $---, then they are just a-holes. Anytime someone is just stirring the pot to be a butt, the moderators should deal with it.

Plus as Monoxide noted... the death of message boards is too many sub-forums. I've seen that too many times as a mod in other places.

I agree, leave it as is. most of us are HERE on a daily basis, where we might not think to go to look at subforums as often.

this setup worked for Slappywhite last summer, it's working for Tandy, and for mashburn as well.

on another note, good to see you around dude, I know you come around when you can and way more in the background now, but good to see ya   :tiphat:
