And here's a special OFR Farm Report podcast about the draft where we talk with Adam "Doc" Herbert.

I mentioned on the podcast that I felt like the Braves had to sign three of the four of Michael Harris, Stephen Paolini, Vaughn Grissom, and Tyler Owens for their draft strategy to pay off. They have now signed Harris, Paolini, and Grissom.

Owens is apparently deciding between honoring his commitment to Florida, signing with the Braves, or going to a JUCO and re-entering the draft next season in hope of going in the top 5 rounds.

I got big mad when they traded Grissom and Justice to Cleveland.....

Yep!! Absolutely hated that deal because I couldn't stand Kenny Lofton. What made that deal even worse was turning right around and trading Jermaine Dye to the Royals for Michael Tucker and Keith Lockhart. WTF man? We went from an OF of Klesko, AJ, Grissom and Justice to Klesko, AJ, Lofton, and Tucker and the latter just wasn't in the same stratosphere as the former.

Lots of signings coming in today, including some prep talent I didn't think they'd be able to get.

Kasey Kalich, RHP, Round 4 - $347.5K (99.9K under-slot)
Tanner Gordon, RHP, Round 6 - $212.5K (44.9K under-slot)
Darius Vines, RHP - Round 7 - $127.5K (74.1K under-slot)
Ricky DeVito, RHP - Round 8 - $167.5K (1400 over-slot)
Tyler Owens, RHP - Round 13 -  $547.5K (422.5K against bonus pool)
Jared Johnson, RHP - Round 14 - $257.5K (132.5K against bonus pool)
Kadon Morton, OF - Round 19 - $447.5K (322.5K against bonus pool)
Bryce Ball, 1B - Round 24 - $197.5K (72.5 against bonus pool)

Owens, Johnson, and Morton are high-upside prep stars. Morton I had zero expectation of signing given his draft round and a reportedly strong commitment to Oklahoma.

The last major prep talent drafted by the Braves has agreed to terms with Atlanta. 1B Mahki Backstrom just announced he's signed. RHP Joey Estes also signed last week.

That's another huge draft class for Atlanta, signing 36/40 selections, even one better than last year's huge class. The main difference is that only one high school player signed last season, this year the Braves got 7.

There's technically a chance the Braves could sign Mitchell Jackson or Joshua Rolling (Riley King and Anthony Hall have definitely indicated they will not sign) as the signing deadline is July 12, but it seems unlikely the Braves have any extra room in their draft bonus pool to entice them away from their college commitments.
