Here's what I could find on big centerfielders.

  • Mike Trout = 6'2, 235
  • George Springer = 6'3, 215
  • Dexter Fowler = 6'5, 195
  • Mitch Haniger = 6'2, 215 (Primarily RF for the M's but has started 19 games in CF this year.)
  • David Dahl = 6'2, 195
  • Lorenzo Cain = 6'2, 205
  • Wil Myers = 6'3, 205

That's interesting in that I've never noticed Fowler being that tall. I guess it's because he's slight.

Obviously, Dale Murphy did it better than anybody back in the 80s, but it's kind of rare these days for giants to roam center. Fowler's a great comparison in terms of appearance since Shewmake is 6-4/190. I like that analog a lot since Fowler only had 27 homers in the minors despite his size. It's his hit tool and overall game that have elevated him.

Yeah, I didn't know Fowler was that tall either.

You seen him next to Heyward? They are pretty much the same height.

Braves have agreed to terms with Shea Langeliers. Deal is worth $4M. Slot value was $4.95M, Braves now have $950K to spend elsewhere.

This is huge, by the way. I didn't think Langeliers would sign this much under slot. If they also get Shewmake and Philip underslot they could end up signing a lot more of that high-upside prep talent that they picked up in Day 2 and Day 3 that I certainly was expecting.

Riley King, the 26th-round draft pick out of UGA, is going back to school. This is probably the least surprise, he was a redshirt sophomore and has two years of eligibility left.

The Braves announced before the game yesterday that they have signed 3rd-rounder Micheal Harris out of Stockbridge HS in Henry County. I have not seen a figure yet. This was one of the four HS picks that I circled as guys I think the Braves need to sign to have a shot at making this draft really good. The others are Stephen Paolini, Vaughn Grissom, and Tyler Owens.

The Braves have signed 17th-rounder RHP Alec Barger and 27th-rounder and coolest name in the draft RHP Indigo Diaz.

Shewmake signed for exactly slot value, $3.13M.

Interested to see where that extra $1m or so goes.

Guess some is already spent on Harris, maybe Paolini and Kalish (he was a redshirt sophomore so could have gone back to school and still had two years of eligibility). Waiting to see how much underslot Philip signed for.

Some numbers trickling out:

Michael Harris signed for $550K, which is $93,100 underslot to sign with him hometown team.

Stephen Paolini signed for $600K, which is $267K overslot. So Paolini gets 28% of the bonus savings the team got from Langeliers.

RHP Peyton Williams has reported to extended spring training, 20th-rounder out of Catawba College. Was a Braves fans growing up, deflected interest from the Mariners and A's.
