I like Cominsky, but I've been hearing something from DQ from a bit that has me concerned... I think he's stressing versatility a bit too much from every single player!!! Can we just get a DE, that is a DE? Too many tweeners...

I think they will train him as a DT, that can play DE from what Ive heard.

Belichick loves versatility in players. I don't doubt Quinn when it comes to defense. Especially d linemen

Cominsky Clayborn and Crawford are really the only tweeners we have playing the DE/DT spot. With Means being hurt and Reed released I think we could see Cominsky earlier than we thought.Though he will be behind Clayborn and Crawford on the depth chart at either spot.

The Patriot Way can't be adopted partially. Very few of their defensive starters were drafted and kept. If this were NE, Grady would be allowed to walk and bring in proven vets at half the cost.

The most successful players on our defense are the least versatile... Grady would be a less than ideal DE, Deion would make an awful SLB and Keanu would suck at FS

None of what I saw on that film session will translate well to the NFL. Skills players are faster and will beat just about any D-Lineman with that much space. QBs are much more savvy and will get the ball out alot faster than what we just saw

Really not impressed by anything in those clips. Wanted to see Cominsky beating blocks to the edge or inside, using his hands to create space or some good footwork. l saw very little.

But Grady can play 5T DT and 3T DT though. Keanu plays a lot of LB. A strong safety in Cover 3 defense is basically a hybrid safety and LB. Jones can play any LB spot but he excels at MLB cause it allows him to flow and react. Also in the Cover 3 the Mike and Sam LB are reading the same exact keys (guard and center) they are your hook defenders

He's a classic LDE.

Cominsky makes sense in a 4-3 under and our 3-4 looks. That’s why Quinn looks for versatility.  Guys that can play with hands in the dirt or standing up.  Look at Crawford.  They are both 6’5, 285 lbs

That’s not true. The best players on our defense are indeed versatile. Debo was converted from A wlb to mlb. Campbell can play WLB and SLB. Rico can play CB, FS, and SS. Crawford can play DE and DT. Clay can play DE and DT. Grady can play 3 and 5 tech. Neal plays SS and basically LB when he’s in the box. This system is based on guys that are versatile.

Nice 'problem' to have. Versatility can make for a lot of disguises that can frustrate QB's at times. Not to mention filling in when another defender goes down or needs to catch a break.
