We have almost 400 million guns in this country.  That is extreme.  We need to take drastic measures considering the point that we are at.  I don't  know if you saw my last post regarding this, but I mentioned how the U.S. has some 4 billion prescriptions filled per year.  We are a nation with many ills: drug use, high levels of poverty, racism, etc.  Mixing 400 million firearms with those problems is a recipe for disaster.

You should read your own post above...  think about it...

yeah, the guns are THE problem.   take those away and the "disaster" is reduced to simple problems/issues.    smh

people are the problem.  put another way..  FkVtD6d3nGDE8ItxYsmwM6SAkmzusmGilFxLliHtL3APRCJlZm3pMZK7Wm8wPbeI-gi7oA=s85

It’s not crazier.  Just more exposed now.  If the media would stop giving each of these incidents such overwhelming  coverage it wouldn’t be as effective for the ******** looking for SBC.

Funny you should say this as this guy who murdered 50 in our country hasn’t been heard from. Our govt to its credit hushed the media so this guys plight couldn’t be widely publicised. His name hasn’t been mentioned anywhere very publicly even social media very quite here with regards to this guy.

When they put this guy in court he did it from a max security facility via video so he couldn’t grandstand in court.

Seriously for the biggest mass murder in NZ history you’d have not known it as this guy has basically been buried no note of the event bar the plight of the victims that’s all that mentioned about thee above.

They just drew a line in the sand with it and that was that no ifs no buts.

Same thing with the gun controls here. There was some opposition and some of the biggest gun sellers in the country kicked up a stink the govt listened and even then just cut there knees off and got the law through.

I think what I like the most was there assertiveness over both of the mentioned they put there foot down and the public fell into line and accepted it.

Wrong. Mass shootings and school shootings have never been this frequent or severe. The US was never like this before and we shouldn't dismiss it. It's easy to blame the media. It's harder to blame ourselves for failing the next generation, and think of how we can actually fix the problems.

Kent state says hello so does the Texas shooting in 90s as well.

I said we need to look in our mirrors, but also look to the television if you want to find the culprit. Also let's just say media in general online or offline.

Plus there are many shootings that probably never made national news back in the day. Excuse me for sounding rude, but people saying things are worse than ever are romanticizing what happened in the past big time.

That keyword that most seem to miss sensationalize if all ******** from 70's to 2000 became exposed I doubt a lot of people would be able to function.

You speak the truth statistically. Violent crime has never been lower. Domestically and internationally. It’s true but the violent group killings is unfortunately becoming the norm. It used to be gang related, turf wars but now it’s mental and many times ideological. That’s the difference. A new kind of domestic terrorism.  Now it’s I’m upset someone has to die. Scary stuff. A product of capitalism but the alternative is worse. Way worse.

Why don’t the powers that be act and legislate gun ownership correctly.

We just had a mass shooting here in NZ a few months back and we have already got legislation that now is law banning the ownership of semi automatic weapons. They also have a govt funded a buy back program for people handing in these types of weapons.

This is after one incident that’s all it took before our govt said enough enough.

This seems a very common occurrence in the US but the govt stands back and allows this sought of thing to happen.

I don’t get it.

It's illegal for felons to have guns but they still get them don't they?

Do the people ie gun lobbies have that much power and influence over your voted politicians.

When does common sense come into this equation.

Any normal sane person can see you’ve got gun issues in the US.I’m just shocked that everyone seemingly just shrugs there shoulders and says oh well this is acceptable and this is the people that are running your country.

This is from an outsider looking in though I just really don’t understand the thought process you guys live by with regards to this.

The dude literally explained it to you and you ignored it.

I wouldn't be surprised if capitalism is toppled over soon to be honest people wake up more every day to the ills it has caused us. I'm apart of the generation that most talk about here, but it's not a generational thing it's the system we believed in failing us, and in my mind it's failing us on purpose. I'm not gonna go too deep, but all this BS you see someone or something is profiting off things.

First, New Zealand is a unicameral parliament, and the Kiwis do not have a constitutional right of gun ownership that exists in the United States. Not to be argumentative, but regardless of your position on gun control, the process is apples and oranges.

Second, before you so pithily question the logic of citizens of the United States, remember the context under which our country was founded.  We are literally a melting pot of people whose ancestors fled true government tyranny, and thus created a constitution protecting the right to fight back in the event our government ever decided to attempt the same ******** persecution that our previous generations endured and finally escaped.

Please just keep this one thing in mind.  Freedom is not safeSometimes freedom is downright horrific.  But the more safety you gain, the more freedom you sacrifice.  There is a balance, of course.  But beware.  You rarely gain back freedom you give up...without bloody revolution.

It’s all a joke.  Don’t believe me, watch how different FOX & CNN cover the shootings and see the agendas being shoved down your throat on both sides.  It’s why I read the Wall Street journal and ignore every other “media” outlet

They own both sides which means they always win.

Only 4 companies now own all media which means you only get 4 different opinions and that's it.

So long as the media outlets keep the population fighting each other rather than the Man, all is good from their perspective.

Whatever happened to talking out your problems ?? This generation is so easily consumed by hatred.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a "this generation" thing, specifically in this case the shooter was 40 years old.

These things have happened throughout history going back to the beginning. Advancements in technology or weaponry changes how things happen and unfortunately makes things easier to negatively accomplish.

I’ll say this friend, you really need to research the atrocities committed in the early 20th century. Any other form of government is way worse than capitalism and a free voting public. Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, Pol Pot’s regime. Mao Zeedong’s regime, Fidel’s Castro’s Cuban revolution regime, Kim Jong Un in N. Korea, Che Guevara in Argentina. These are some examples of socialist or communist ideology that led to tyranny some say as much as over 100 million deaths. The history is written and is indisputable. I don’t mean to be condescending but today’s government schools have done your generation no favors although you’ll be ok just like the rest of us.

Yeah, capitalism is still the best economic and/or political system.  America has issues, just like every other nation in the history of two leggers.  But it still provides its citizens a platform to do or be whatever they so wish.

Work hard, play smart and literally the world is your oyster.  Few countries offer it’s citizens such opportunity
