g-dawg
Who, from 2008 NFL Draft, will sit on the iron throne? I got Matty Ice! Only Players still in the NFL today out of 2008 1st round: 3) Matt Ryan, QB - Atlanta 16) Dominique Rogers Cromartie, CB - Arizona (now w/ Redskins) 18) Joe Flacco, QB - Baltimore (now w/ Denver) 20) Aquib Talib, CB - Denver (now with LA Rams) 26) Duane Brown, OT - Houston (now with Seattle) Chris Long, drafted ahead of Matt Ryan just retired. Out of the first 15 picks, Matty Ice is still the only one in the league. Out of the 5 still playing, Matt Ryan is the only player with his original team. 1 Miami Dolphins Jake Long T Michigan 2 St. Louis Rams Chris Long DE Virginia 3 Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan QB Boston College 4 Oakland Raiders Darren McFadden RB Arkansas 5 Kansas City Chiefs Glenn Dorsey DT Louisiana State 6 New York Jets Vernon Gholston LB Ohio State 7 New Orleans Saints Sedrick Ellis DT USC 8 Jacksonville Jaguars Derrick Harvey DE Florida 9 Cincinnati Bengals Keith Rivers OLB USC 10 New England Patriots Jerod Mayo ILB Tennessee 11 Buffalo Bills Leodis McKelvin CB Troy 12 Denver Broncos Ryan Clady T Boise State 13 Carolina Panthers Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon 14 Chicago Bears Chris Williams OT Vanderbilt 15 Kansas City Chiefs Branden Albert T Virginia 16 Arizona Cardinals Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee State 17 Detroit Lions Gosder Cherilus T Boston College 18 Baltimore Ravens Joe Flacco QB Delaware 19 Carolina Panthers Jeff Otah T Pittsburgh 20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Aqib Talib CB Kansas 21 Atlanta Falcons Sam Baker T USC 22 Dallas Cowboys Felix Jones RB Arkansas 23 Pittsburgh Steelers Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois 24 Tennessee Titans Chris Johnson RB East Carolina 25 Dallas Cowboys Mike Jenkins CB South Florida 26 Houston Texans Duane Brown T Virginia Tech 27 San Diego Chargers Antoine Cason CB Arizona 28 Seattle Seahawks Lawrence Jackson DE USC 29 San Francisco 49ers Kentwan Balmer DE North Carolina 30 New York Jets Dustin Keller TE Purdue 31 New York Giants Kenny Phillips FS Miami (Fla.) BoomGoesTheDynamite
Wanted Dorsey. Glad I don't run spit. Talib is probably the luckest dude on the list. Won SB's with Denver, and Pats. By the way, anybody remember all the comparisons between Ryan and Flacco? Edited May 20, 2019 by BoomGoesTheDynamite

I got sick of listening to people pump up Flacco - after he won the SB, heck almost half of TATF was liking him better than Matt - he was never close to as good. In his early years with Baltimore, Flacco was QB when they got some playoff wins - but Ravens won in spite of Joe Cool - not because of him. To his credit, Flacco played really well in playoffs for two years and won a SB in one of those years. He has always been mostly trash in the regular season and statistically he has never been impressive. Over-rated. g-dawg
of the 5 players left, the rest will likely be out of the league by 2022. My guess is Matt plays until 2026.

LightningDawg58
DRC still holding it down for my D-II Alma Mater. Weird to see he went ahead of Talib who has had more notoriety over his career. DRC has been really solid through the years. Oh yeah, and clearly we won this draft looking back. Matt has been the cornerstone of an entire franchise g-dawg

Ironically, Baltimore was at #7 overall and they wanted Matt Ryan as well. Rams were trying to trade down from #2 overall and were talking to the Ravens. Rams GM Billy Devaney called Dimitroff and offered him a chance to trade up to #2 but Trader Tommy passed on the opportunity because he didn’t believe Ozzie would give away a lot of his draft to move ahead of Falcons. If you guys remember, Falcons also won a three way coin toss with Raiders and Chiefs to settle the 3, 4, 5 picks. I believe the Chiefs GM at the time said had Matt Ryan been there when they were on the clock they would have taken him. Do you guys realize how incredibly fortunate we were to get Matt with 3rd pick in the draft? Dolphins should have taken him at #1. Rams could have taken him or traded the pick at #2. A lot of things went right for the Falcons in the spring of 2008. falcons007, schwarzenegger321, vel and 1 other
vel
Lmao man I just went and looked at Dorsey's combine numbers, that guy was destined to be a bust. 6'1 297lbs 5.12s forty 1.74s split 7.52s three cone 25 inch vert Compare that to Quinnen Williams 6'3 303lbs 4.83s forty 1.67s split 7.01s three cone 30 inch vert Or Ed Oliver 6'1 285lbs 4.73s forty 1.63s split 7.15s three cone 36 inch vert Dorsey wouldn't even be considered a first round prospect in this NFL. It's amazing he was when he got drafted. He wasn't even a special player and it showed very quickly in the NFL. g-dawg and FalconJim

After the free agent visit to Atlanta, Turner was supposed to visit the Bears - Arthur Blank and Dimitroff wouldn’t let him leave the ATL and got the deal done by Monday after the weekend visit. Talk about two homerun moves. falcons007

FalconFanSince1970
That was the year we took Ryan, thanks to Blank and Mularkey. Then we gave up two seconds and a fourth to move back into the first for Sackmaker, while leaving Duane Brown on the board. Then we re-signed buddy to a cap draining extension. Troffed. Talk about two homerun moves. This franchise, AB and fan base needed everything in 2008 after the **** show in 2007. That was black December in franchise history. Vick went to prison, Petrino ran away and Bill parcels humiliated by agreeing and ditching. All that happened in 7-10 days.

Baker problem was health. Duane Brown was terrible and worse than Baker in first 3 years. He turned it around in 4th year though. vel and g-dawg
