Jets trade Lee for a bag of chips

70 posts in this topic

Well not a bag of chips but close enough..it was a 6th round pick. Not sure how it is going to work out with his 5th year option being declined, he could potentially be an FA next year. The Jets are a dumpster fire right now and their coach Adam Gase is also the GM. This would be the right time to make a play at any of their players.

Darron Lee

- coming off suspension for PEDS

- one year left on contract

- huge draft bust

- Huge salary

- cannot defend against the run

- poor tackler

Why is that worth our 6th rounder?

The UDFA we just got from UAB after going undrafted is probably better than Darron Lee.

Some one has to make this thread on TATF for every player traded worthy or not.

Lee did really start to improve Week 7 in 2017

He was terrible 2016 and Weeks 1-6 in 2017.  Solid afterwards.

I see no reason why the Falcons should have traded for Lee. Foye showed promise and is a worker so improvement is expected. Debo is Debo. Campbell is a solid LB. Trading for Lee only would have hindered Foye's development. Glad they didn't make a move for him only to let him walk next season.

And if everyone remembers he was mocked to the Falcons big time prior to the draft. Some experts thought we blew it of course.. :o

We signed Hageman. He too is suspended and a Draft Bust. Just saying we have taken shots on subpar players before who have a history of "trouble".

Im not advocating tossing picks for Lee. But I always wonder about scheme fits and game responsibilites that may cause a player to fail. Meaning, DQ says his scheme is "simple" so it allows players to play fast. Was Lee a bad fit for the Jets defense? Was Lee "football dumb" and would do better in a system that allowed him to just play fast like DQs?

Salary, contract length, locker room attitude, poor tackler are all very valid concerns. Probably best we didn't try for him.

Darron Lee 3 years. 240 career tackles,  4 sacks, 3 INTs, #14 rated MLB based on pff rating, speedy coverage LB

Duke Riley 2 years. 90 career tackles, 0 sacks, 0 INTs,  #88 rated MLB based on pff rating, complete waste of a 3rd rounder

Idk. Why would we want to upgrade our LB core for cheap? Even if he doesn't start he's only 800k more expensive than Riley but far more productive and has experience starting. He's better than anyone we have other than Debo and De'vondre

He’s a name, that’s all - because he started his career as 1st rd pick, fans think for about 5 yrs that he can be revived.

Honestly I think the UAB backer is better than Darron Lee.

Devondre Campbell might walk next season and Darron Lee has almost identical numbers to him while costing the Chiefs less. The move would have made a lot of sense

Huge difference.   DarronLee is a BUST and he is unknown.

Dan Quinn KNOWS Hageman and his entire story.   Further, bringing HAGS back cost you nothing in draft picks and vet minimum.  Also, HAGS is a prototype size and power.

Exactly. 1st round bust means the talent is there for a reclamation project for one of the former best DCs in the league. I love trading 6ths for talented busts
