In retrospect, this was forseeable.  And it explains a little.

How much dead money is this?

It's easy to forget that he was out most of last season.

In a way, it is sort of empowering. . . We were DECIMATED by injuries last season and were still somewhat competitive.

That's what I wonder, too. Is this like reaching an injury settlement, or is being released because of a failed physical a whole different type of situation?

Dang. Not shocked per se, and expected he could be a post-6/1 cut candidate anyhow... but kinda bummed he couldn't at least get healthy enough to compete for a spot. Feels sorta like the jon Asamougha situation a few years back.

Yeah, it's too bad he didn't have a chance to compete.....maybe if/when he gets healthy we bring him back for depth, unless some of these other guys "ball out"!!!  In that case, he may be indispensable.  At some point, though, after he gets healthy, he may catch on with another team....at least, for good depth.

Naaa Asamougha was actually good . That whole situation is still weird to this day though.

From looking at when players from other teams have been released due to a failed physical, I get the feeling that it's treated just like cutting any player under contract. Thus, the cap ramifications are the same as they would be by cutting them for any other reason.

In this case, I'd hope they are able to designate him a post-6/1 cut. That frees up $3M w/ $1.75M in dead money.

Cutting him outright gives us $2.3M, but creates $2.5 in dead money.

Depends on how the contract is structured, that said he had 1 million guaranteed salary so unless there's a injury clause (and there may be) then it's 2.5 million this year and 750k next year...

Who could have seen such a thing coming?

Awful signing in the first place. He was never good prior to the injury

Yep but thats the kind of signings a team does when they are piecing together a patch work OL.

You've got to think Wes is almost guaranteed a spot now, given he's the only interior OL left that has been cross trained at center.

Welp, now with no Fusco and Wes a very fringe OL at this point, seems like signing Carpenter and Brown were smart overpays to ensure we weren't sunk at the position before camp even begins.

Depth....expensive at it may be, is priceless when protecting the FRANCHISE.

I don't think it guaranteed. I see a bad *** OL forming and he may be a back up,but not part of the Bad *** crew.
