Monolith2001's 2019 Non-Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

I don't do mocks but I do watch a ton of film and thought I'd put out my list of guys whose film I liked and think could fit in this team.  I've ranked them by position group and earliest rounds I would like them  ex.  RB3 = Running back 3rd round at earliest.  There are guys who I am completely fine with (like Dillard and Risner for the OL) but they're not here because I didn't love their film as much as the guys as a fit for what I think we are trying to do in 2019.

OFFENSE

I've been favoring JW a bit more in recent days due to polish but would be over the moon to get Ford.  Tytus feels like he could be special with good coaching if we don't go OL in 1st...l like Chuma Edoga but not the potential character issues.  Bradbury would be a luxury pick and why I don't have him in the 1st though he may very well go mid to late first.
OL1:  Jonah Williams, Cody Ford, Jawaan Taylor
OL2:  Tytus Howard, Chris Lindstrom, Garrett Bradbury
OL3+:  Yodney Cajuste, Ross Pierschbacher, Lamont Gaillard

I'm personally set to go into the season with the guys we have but if we went RB, only one RB I'd take before 4th.
RB3:  David Montgomery
RB4+:  Justice Hill, Bruce Love, Ryquell Armstead

Other than Hardman, I don't really care with our WR corp.  I think Hardman could be a great returner and take those occasional Marvin Hall snaps.
WR3+: Mecole Hardman

Another position where we got a full plate.  I'd grab big dynamic guy with ball skills like Wesco late and let him compete with Stocker.
TE5/FB5:  Trevon Wesco

I don't love this QB class but I found one late round guy that kinda reminds me of MR2 (similar size too) and I'd like to get him to compete with Kurt.
QB6+:  Garner Minshew

DEFENSE

Beaten to death, I am pretty sold on one of the three DL below though I say it's 50/50 we do something else.  The guys in have DL2 will likely go in 1st  and Saunders perhaps mid to late 2nd.
DL1:  Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, Ed Oliver
DL2: Rashan Gary, Jeffery Simmons,  Jerry Tillery
DL3: Khalen Saunders

I don't think the DE/EDGE prospects at the top of this class are amazing (the ones who could be around at 14) but these are the guys who I see some promise in.
DE1:  Brian Burns, Clelin Ferrell
DE2:  Chase Winovich
DE3:  Ben Banogu
DE4+:  Austin Bryant, Jalen Jelks, Maxx Crosby

Likewise, I don't love the top of the CB class.
CB2:  Justin Layne
CB3+:  Sean Bunting, Trayvon Mullen, Julian Love, David Long

Only two LBs I would care to take as I really think Debo, Dre and Foye would work fine so this not a priority for me and would be fine with any guy who can either tackle well like Pratt or be all over the place like Joseph.
LB2:  Germaine Pratt
LB3:  Vosean Joseph

I have not evaluated any Safeties and would not draft a kicker though I do like Tyler Newsome.

Who you got on your wishlist that's not here?  Who you taking off?

Vosean is perfect for our WLB position. Bunting is an ideal Cover 3 CB.

For RT I'd worry about J Williams ability to create the space we need in thr run game. In oass protection he's rock solid,  but in run blocking he lacks the functional strength to be a difference maker immediately.

I'd rather have the guy whose tape impressed me the most, Yodney Cajuste. He's the mean, body moving RT we want but also has great upside in pass pro.

I agree with you to a point on Williams but for me this was a choice of talent vs power.  Ford needs some refinement to excel as an NFL OT but if he gets it, I project him as a beast.  Williams is NFL ready.  He does all the little things right.  He's not super powerful or athletic but he knows how to do his job and wants to be the best at it.

Cajuste has a ton of upside but I like Tytus Howard a bit more.   As long as they can beat Sambaillo we're already ahead of the game.

Same here.  Both guys have great athleticism but it's not all there.  In fact I think Winovich may have done more for Gary than the other way around.

I think Winovich is being stereotyped a little bit. His tape and combine numbers scream, “athletic edge rusher” but I keep hearing the “effort” “gym rat” “non-stop motor” narrative. Whoever gets him, gets a steal.
