I hope all these DT signings mean we go OT in the first round

45 posts in this topic

The most effective way to improve this team is to give MR2 protection.

Scoring more points and winning time of possession makes the defense look better as well. We lost a handful of games last year where the other team only scores 20-24 points and our defense was a M.A.S.H. unit. Others were lost when we couldn't put together a game winning/sealing drive. Putting up 27+ points a game wins a lot of games for you.

If we can find a starting RT in the draft and get a couple of competent guards out of the o-line group, theyll be back in business. Just look how the O-line drafted last year for the Colts turned that team around.

Hopefully, we go OT in round one and maybe pick up a DE like Winovich in the second.

I still think we're one impact DL player away from where we need to be, but we've singed a lot of new players and a couple of old favorites. Maybe Quinn and TD will feel like OT has become a bigger priority at this point than DL. If so, I'm going to enjoy feeling like our OL is going to finally be solidified for the foreseeable future.

Better defense means more opportunities for the offense and less the offense has to score.

It goes both ways.

Outside of camp bodies, the defense made one improvement, Clay.    Offense was good last year and should be better this year as is.  Help the D

I like Clay, Davison, and Hags but in no way do they fix this line like these guys think.

Clay is a rotational dude that will get 2-4 sacks. Hags may be able to continue to build off of his 2016 we don't know. Lastly Davison is nothing more than a run stopper. He'll see around 40% of the snaps and isn't a threat in the pass rush.

You right.  Forgot about Davison.  I actually like him slot for us, but like Poe, his stats won’t reflect his value so he will be bashed on TATF.

Hagemen is a question mark

All I'm saying is top 5 o-line, Ryan wins MVP, they roll through the playoffs and are up 25 in the super bowl.

Poor performing o-line 7-9 and miss the playoffs.

The offense wasn't awful statistically but way worse than the previous couple of years. Matt was on his back way too much. Barring any setbacks in recovery or additional injuries, you could argue that we have more talent on the defense than we had in 2016. Top teams have top offensive lines. Besides Ryan isn't getting any younger and it would behoove them to keep him upright as long as possible.

All I'm saying is that top 5 o-line still blew a 25 point lead. You know what holds a lead? A defense that STOPS SCORING.

Now my Mock is to trade back 2 spots and pick up a 3rd.

1st pick at 16-17 OT CODY FORD

Trade the 3rd we picked up and a 4th for another 2nd  pick so now we have 2nd picks.

With our 2 Second round picks

We pick CB Trayvon Mullen Clemson

Edge/LB Chase Winovich Michigan

3rd pick Center Lamont Gilliard Georgia

4th pick WR/PR Mecole Hardman Georgia

5th pick Safety Safety Will Harris Boston College

5th pick QB Nick Fitzgerald Miss. State

6TH Trevon Wesco FB 6:3 267 West Virginia

7th J. Ledbetter DE Georgia

If we come out of this draft with 9 picks, Dimitroff has done it wrong.  We can't keep 9 draft picks on this team.  Best bet is to use those late round picks to move up as much as possible, across the board.  Hopefully we end up with 6 or 7 picks and our full allotment for next year.

I'm cool with trading down in the first, and then using the 3rd to move up again into the 2nd.  I'd then look at getting another 3rd or 4th by trading away additional later picks.  I'm kind of expecting some bigger moves to happen.  I guess we'll see soon enough.

If we stay put it comes down to who is a better combo. Wilkins and Howard, because Lindstrom won't be there in rd 2. Or Ford/Dillard and CB (most likely Bunting)

Gaillard won’t be taken in the 3rd round they’ve already bought in a backup C in Gettis.I’d swap out that pick with a DT in Khalen Saunders.Hes a project for sure but he’s got some juice to him that guy just needs more consistency.

Mullens my favourite CB in this draft.

There's no RT worth the #14 spot or a trade up in this draft imo.

Maybe in a trade down and definitely in the 2nd round.

Cody Ford is the best bet but even he is truly a Guard and I rather not draft a player just to play him outside of his best position.

We need an OT no doubt.  And as Matt goes, mostly so go the Falcons.

On the other hand, if we could hit an impact starter at DE, a good starter at DT (or vice versa) and a rotational playmaking guy at CB...we could finally potentially have a defense than can help instead of one you just hope doesn't hurt you too much.

You are not wrong. I just think the hit potential is better at OT than on the d-line. Unless, someone like Oliver falls. All the others, (excluding maybe Wilkins) come with some risk.

I think there is DE value in round 2/3.

I've been thinking DL all along but now, I would really prefer an OT. If we could sustain two more drives per game, I'm confident the extra four or five minutes would improve our D immensely. Not just that, but if we get up on teams early, we'd have a schematic advantage as well. Part of how well your defense plays (objectively) is based on how long its on the field, so the offense makes the D that much better. With that said, getting a slobberknocking defensive line could give the offense the ball a couple more times on the other side of the field. But I'd love to have a throwback to the offensive dominance of a couple seasons ago.

Invest in the D, get some good value picks on the O in a couple spots, but this Draft should be mostly about Defense. We got some good veterans in on the DL, have 3 returning injured starters, and can be 1 CB and 1 big time DL away from a solid complimentary D at least.

There is a good argument for either side of the line, but I want to protect our franchise QB over the next 5 years while his window is still open. A dominant pro bowl level RT would be sweet now that we have a stacked DL.

With us letting Shelby go, I wonder if Hageman might take some of his snaps at DE.

We can go pass rusher specialist in 3rd, we need CB in second. Maybe trade up and get 2 second round picks
