Another reason keeping Beasley this year was a mistake. If he does produce, he asks for a similar contract.

Beasley needs 86 tackles, 20 TFLs, 4.5 sacks and 33 QBHits to match Lawrence's rookie contract numbers. Good luck with that. His run defense is nowhere near Lawrence's. If he goes off, he can ask for Lawrence type money, but he probably won't get it. Definitely not from us. We won't have the cap space.

This makes no sense.

Keeping Beasley has nothing to do with paying someone else long-term.

Explain it logically.

If he produces? Great problem to have! How does him being gone already matter contrasted to his potential contract in UFA?

If he doesn't produce, then he leaves for money elsewhere or signs back for cheap...what's the problem?

The thing is, the Falcons weren't gonna be offering long-term deals in UFA in a replacement plan...the replacement plan is the draft and DQ becoming DC, and if Vic wants to get paid even if he goes off then he can go somewhere and we get a compensatory pick to the lucky overpayer.

Where is the problem? We aren't committed to Vic long-term. No way around that. We weren't committed to Grady long-term before he became eligible for UFA either.

Notice the pending players to be paid by this time next year? Debo...Neal (option buys a year)...Hooper. etc.

We already committed to Vic's option last year. Rescind it and we lose any compensatory formula. You know, the thing that has us with 9 picks this coming draft?

But he’s not worth it the narrative round here about players getting paid and what the market suggests there worth lol.

I mean...draft matters so much more. Thankfully, if the coordinators have their stuff together this year it'll be one of the biggest factors in a re-bound year. :)

Dak is still on rookie deal, so they could do this, just like Goff in LA, Wentz in Philly, etc.

But the Russell Wilson problem eventually rears it's head.  When you pay another player QB money, and it comes time to actually PAY to keep your franchise QB, then something's gotta give...

That absolutely makes no sense. He produces he gets a big contract and we get a 3rd round comp pick

He doesn't produce and we shouldn't have kept him is a better argument than him producing making it a bad decision. like...wat?

D Law if he just keeps his normal pace is a 10+ sack, 60 tackle, 15TFL, 20+ QB hit guy.  Those guys get paid.

In comparison, Beasley is a 5 sack, 20 tackle, 10 QB hit guy.  Very different animal.

The first of those two you expect to be a game changer.  The 2nd you expect you could get from any remotely decent edge rusher who gets the majority of snaps (replacement level...basically Adrian Clayborn has the same stats)

Just hoping Grady will take 15-17/yr and I’ll be happy. Well ... other than over paying VB. I’d still take BI at a 1/3 the cost and guarantee better results. Oh well.

Pipe dream.  He wants at least what Lawrence got

Depends.  They have an 8 mill diffetence in salary.

If we sign Shelton and Irvin with that 8 mill difference, it’s a tough call.

id take Vic, Irvin & Shelton over Lawrence

I think you might be right, but I also think it's silly.

Again as per above, D Law is a  10+ sack, 60 tackle, 15TFL, 20+ QB hit guy.

Jarrett is a 5 sack, 50 tackle, 10 TFL, 10-15 QB hit guy.

The top line is a top tier DE.  The bottom line is a pretty good DT.  And I like Jarrett, but everybody isn't supposed to get paid the same thing.

Dak won’t be on his rookie deal for much longer. Can’t wait until he cashes in on him. Jerry is gonna overpay the **** out of him
