THE 2019 NFL DRAFT

nfldraftlogo1.jpg

FIRST ROUND

(**DISCLAIMER: This mock draft has been heavily influenced by visiting NFL Team's message boards and gauging fan interest in certain selections.)

1-1) The Arizona Cardinals select QB Kyler Murray, Oklahoma - The Cardinals grab their new coaches preferred franchise QB.

1-2) The San Francisco 49ers select DE Nick Bosa, Ohio State - The 49ers hope to have selected the best pass rusher and player in the draft.

1-3) The New York Jets select DE Josh Allen, Kentucky - The Jets grab some elite edge rush talent to try and energize their defense.

1-4) The Oakland Raiders select DL Quinnen Williams, Alabama - The Raiders grab arguably the most talented defensive player in the draft.

1-5) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select LB Devin White, LB - The Buccaneers look to continue their legacy of fielding elite linebackers.

1-6) The New York Giants select OT Jawaan Taylor, Florida - The Giants know for any QB or RB to be successful, their offensive line needs improving.

1-7) The Jacksonville Jaguars select DE Montez Sweat, Mississippi State - The Jaguars hope he is a big success at edge opposite Ngakoue.

1-8) The Detroit Lions are on the clock...

The Detroit Lions GM has been very open about desiring a slight trade down this year:

“I always like draft picks,” Quinn said. “So if we can move back a little bit, a couple spots, and pick up another pick, the depth in this draft is really—from the late first to the third—there’s a lot of really good players in there. So, if I could ever move back a few spots, get a really good player in the first round and add another pick, I think that’s something that’d be great.”

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001025260/article/detroit-lions-gm-open-to-trading-down-in-first-round

Well, sure enough, he gives the Falcons a call:

Bob Quinn inquires: “Hey Thomas, are you interested in moving up to 8 to grab an available player in the draft this year?”

oawylaj79x7bewpquow8.jpg

Thomas Dimitroff to Dan Quinn: "Dan, we can go grab Ed Oliver. They want our 1st and 2nd for their 1st and 3rd. On one hand we get a guy we love, moving up 6 spots in the first round. Our 2nd round pick however gets downgraded 43 spots from pick 45 to pick 88."

Dan Quinn replies: "There's a lot of players I think we can add to this team right now, I do not think we should remove ourselves from the 2nd round to grab Ed."

Thomas Dimitroff to Dan Quinn: "I agree, I'll let him know and we'll see if Ed is here at 14."

Thomas Dimitroff to Bob Quinn: "Hey Bob, we appreciate your offer and respect you reaching out to us, but we are going to have to decline at this time. It was a fair offer and we were torn, but we'll sit pat at 14 for now. Please let us know the rest of the weekend if you have any further trade interests."

Bob Quinn replies: "I understand Thomas, thank you for your time. I just received some inside information that our rivals in Green Bay will not let Ed Oliver slip past them. Buffalo is pretty in love with Ed as well. Does that make you reconsider?"

Thomas Dimitroff carefully: "We are still going to pass Bob, thank you for the heads up."

FIRST ROUND CONTINUED...

• 1-8) The Detroit Lions select DE Brians Burns, Florida State - The Lions look to replace Ansah on the edge, and hope Burns' pass rush prowess translates to the NFL.

• 1-9) The Buffalo Bills select DL Ed Oliver, Houston - The Bills prioritize the trenches and grab one of the more exciting players in the draft after losing Kyle Williams.

1-10) The Denver Broncos select QB Drew Lock, Missouri - John Elway is, agreeing with reports, in love with Lock and will look to redshirt him behind Flacco for a year.

1-11) The Cincinnati Bengals select LB Devin Bush, Michigan - It is no secret that the Bengals were coveting a playmaker at linebacker; they found him.

1-12) The Green Bay Packers select TE T.J. Hockenson, Iowa - The Packers add a big target for Rodgers in the passing game, he should be special.

1-13) The Miami Dolphins select DL Rashan Gary, Michigan - The Dolphins punt at QB, and opt to fortify their trenches with the athletically gifted, edge prospect.

1-14) The Atlanta Falcons are on the clock...

maxresdefault.jpg

The Falcons survey their draft board and prepare to finalize their first round decision.

*Ring, Ring!*

Dan Quinn answers the phone and promptly hands it to Thomas Dimitroff.

Dan Quinn informs: "It's the Houston Texans general manager, TD."

920x920.jpg

Brian Gaine: "Thomas, Brian here with the Texans. We need to know how you feel about moving back to our pick in the draft? We have an athletic offensive tackle we are in love with who we think can help protect DeShaun, but we are confident he won't be here at 23."

Thomas Dimitroff: "Well Brian, we are listening, but we already have guys currently we are actually pretty excited to pull the trigger on. What is your offer?"

Brian Gaine: "Thomas, Houston is prepared to send you our 1st and our lower 2nd round pick to move up to 14."

DraftTek.com Trade Value Chart Breakdown:

1-14 ATL = 1100 points

1-23 HOU = 760 points

2-55 HOU = 350 points

Total = Houston 1110 points and ATL 1100 points

Thomas Dimitroff: "I don't know Brian, we feel like we may miss out on our top targets moving all the way back to 23. The 2nd is enticing. We haven't done much planning to pick in the mid 50's. Wait, don't you own pick 54?"

Brian Gaine: "Yes Thomas, we are actually prepared to offer you our highest 2nd instead of our lowest second in the trade. This only leap frogs us, but if you are worried about competing with us for your second round selection, now you wouldn't. This is also the best I am able to offer you. We love this tackle prospect, but we cannot offer you any better than this to get him."

DraftTek.com Trade Value Chart Breakdown:

1-14 ATL = 1100 points

1-23 HOU = 760 points

2-54 HOU = 360 points

Total = Houston 1120 points and ATL 1100 points

Thomas Dimitroff: "Brian, give me a minute. I want to relay your offer to the War Room."

The Pick Is In...

Roger Goodell: "With the 23rd pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Dexter Lawrence, defensive tackle, Clemson."

Analyst: "The Falcons have to be thrilled that Lawrence was here after the trade down. He's a big, athletic body. The Falcons wanted to get bigger this offseason; stronger. That is exactly what Lawrence gives them here. The Pick Is In...

Keith Brooking: ""With the 45th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Jaylon Ferguson, defensive end, Louisiana Tech."

Analyst: "Opinions differ on this kid, but if the positive opinions prove to be true, the Falcons have found themselves a real difference maker off the edge for a long time. At Louisiana Tech he was a productive pass rusher, to say the least. He is the all-time NCAA record holder for sacks, with 45, passing Terrell Suggs record. The Falcons can only hope his production translates to the NFL as well as Suggs production did. It will take some coaching, but the Falcons coach Dan Quinn is up to the task. He should immediately step into a rotational role on the edge."

Keith Brooking: ""With the 54th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Kaleb McGary, offensive tackle, Washington."

Analyst: "This kid has that former basketball player background that many scouts love. The athleticism and frame are there. He is a career right tackle so far, and that is just where the Falcons envision this kid being. He has the tools, but can the Falcons staff get good production out of him and can it happen as early as this year? The Falcons are certainly betting on their ability to refine his blocking skills to prepare for the NFL game, but it remains to be seen if he can supplant incumbent Ty Sambrailo. At the very least, this season, he provides strong competition at the right tackle position for Atlanta."

The Pick Is In...

Jessie Tuggle: ""With the 79th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Isaiah Johnson, cornerback, Houston."

Analyst: "Another Oliver from Houston was linked to Atlanta in rumors this off season. Well Ed in Atlanta did not come to fruition, but they likely get the better value here. Isaiah Oliver converted from wide receiver to cornerback for Houston and never looked back. He has all of the tools. His speed and good hands make him an especially attractive prospect for Atlanta. They Falcons may have to make a tough decision with Desmond Trufant soon, and Isaiah Oliver with a year of grooming could very well be who they turn to in that event. Atlanta will hope to fine tune the skills of the other Oliver from Houston."

*Thomas Dimitroff answers the phone*

David Gettleman: "Hey Troff, I just got some inside information that the Redskins are going to select MeCole Hardman out of Georgia with the 96th pick. We have the 95th pick. I would have considered grabbing him ahead of them, but we just grabbed Deebo Samuel a round earlier. We don't really want them to have this kid. I heard a rumor that you guys covet Hardman. If that's so, how about we strike a deal and leave the Redskins empty handed?"

Thomas Dimitroff: "Dave, we may indeed be interested in a trade up. What is it going to cost us? As you know we don't pick again for a while."

David Gettleman: "Well, this is what I had in mind when I called you. Our 3rd for your two 4ths and your late 5th."

The Pick Is In...

Someone We Don't Know: "With the 117th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Lamont Gaillard, center, Georgia."

Analyst: "The Georgia product performed well for one of the very best teams in college football. He was asked to lead their offensive line from the center position. The Falcons will likely allow him to compete for one of their guard spots for now, as he continues to bulk and wait for his opportunity to replace Alex Mack at center. He will use his technique to win, but will also depend on his all out effort and intensity to get the job done in the trenches. The hometown kid has shown he can compete with the best in college, the Falcons will look to develop him into an NFL player that can do the same."

The Pick Is In...

Someone We Don't Know: "With the 137th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Maxx Crosby, defensive end, Eastern Michigan."

Analyst: "This kid was on a lot of people's boards as a difference making pass rusher in the later rounds of the draft. Atlanta has to be excited about snagging him late in the fourth round. There is some work to be done, filling out his long frame and fine tuning his skills. He should be good now for some difference making plays in a rotation from the edge versus the pass and the run, but it is his future outlook that will have this front office excited."

Moreland_Jimmy_091318_Robert_Morris.JPG

The Pick Is In...

Someone We Don't Know: "With the 152nd pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Jimmy Moreland, cornerback, James Madison."

Analyst: "With Isaiah Johnson earlier, the Falcons double dip at corner, but Moreland, too, has made some positive waves in NFL scouting departments. He has a small frame but showed up with a lot with big time plays, nice speed and physical tenacity in college. 18 career interceptions is a nice accomplishment, but 6 went for touchdowns, showing his knack for game changing efforts. He needs to bulk up on his thin frame, but with some grooming, he could become a constant in the Falcons secondary for years to come."

FIFTH ROUND CONTINUED

• 5-152) The Atlanta Falcons select CB Jimmy Moreland, James Madison - (above)

• 5-153) The Washington Redskins select S Jaquan Johnson, Miami - The Redskins need safety help, and Johnson could eventually be the help they need.

• 5-157) The Tennessee Titans select TE Foster Moreau, LSU - After losing TE Luke Stocker, the Titans hope Moreau fills his spot well.

• 5-158) The Buffalo Bills select LB T.J. Edwards, Wisconsin - The Bills signed a ton of offseason players this year, have a large amount of picks, but had yet to get a linebacker.

The Pick Is In...

Someone We Don't Know: "With the 172nd pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Sheldrick Redwine, safety, Miami."

Analyst: "This safety out of Miami has great athleticism, he plays with physical aggression and has good ball hawking ability. Redwine is a good, physical tackler and that is something the Falcons should come to realize and value about him. His consistency in coverage is truly his biggest question mark. If the Falcons can lock him into the game and fine tune his skills, Redwine could be a future solution at the position. For now, he is a special teamer who should still find a way to show up on game day due to his speed."

The Pick Is In...

Someone We Don't Know: "With the 186th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Elijah Holyfield, running back, Georgia."

Analyst: "This is a classic tale of an awful combine tanking a players draft outlook. Holyfield was an effective college runner at Georgia, but a poor combine and 40 time caused his draft stock to plummet. Obviously the Falcons are disregarding his combine numbers by selecting him here. They are hedging their bets on Holyfield being an effective runner at the NFL level as well. He is agile and quick, but does not possess much top end speed. On tape, he is an aggressive and muscularly stout runner, who runs with a fury and good decisiveness that has to have Dan Quinn excited. Holyfield will look to prove he wasn't a system running back at Georgia, or the product of his big Georgia offensive line. As it turns out, he gets to try and prove his critics wrong in his hometown."

Jack Fox: "Coach, I will do anything I can for you. Place holding, punting, punt coverage tackles, kickoffs, backup kicking duties, the occasional kickoff tackle, I will do it all. You are going to get my best."

Dan Quinn: "Happy to hear it. You will have to compete with our punter Bosher, but we would not have taken you if we didn't feel you were up to the task."

The Pick Is In...

Someone We Don't Know: "With the 230th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Jack Fox, punter, Rice."

Analyst: "The only person who wasn't interested by this pick was the Falcons incumbent punter Matt Bosher. Bosher has been the Falcons kicker for a while and Fox is obviously selected here to see if he can upgrade and supplant him. Fox has experience kicking, kickoffs and punting, but his NFL future seems set on his punting ability. Fox has a big leg for punts and kickoffs, but he will need to fine tune his accuracy to pin more teams inside the 20, instead of settling for touchbacks. If Fox can beat out Bosher as the Falcons punter, he will be a far cheaper and more physically gifted option for them to rely on for the next 4 years or so."
