FURTHER ATLANTA FALCONS CUTS

  • OG Brandon Fusco
  • P Matt Bosher

FURTHER ATLANTA FALCONS FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

  • DT Danny Shelton, Former Patriot - A one-dimensional run plugging specialist, should be an affordable contract.Danny-Shelton-1280x640.jpg
  • OT Jermey Parnell, Former Jaguar - Cheap swing tackle deal for aged veteran who has started many games.usatsi_10562178.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=1

NFL DRAFT

nfl-draft-mgn.jpg?1544347035

  • 1-1) The Arizona Cardinals select QB Kyler Murray, Oklahoma
  • 1-2) The San Francisco 49ers select DE Nick Bosa, Ohio State

*TRADE*

The Giants trade the 1-6 pick and other draft assets to the Jets for the 1-3 pick.

  • 1-3) The New York Giants (trade with Jets) select QB Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State
  • 1-4) The Oakland Raiders select DE Josh Allen, Kentucky
  • 1-5) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select LB Devin White, LSU
  • 1-6) The New York Jets (trade with Giants) select DL Quinnen Williams, Alabama
  • 1-7) The Jacksonville Jaguars select OT Jawaan Taylor, Florida
  • 1-8) The Detroit Lions select DE Montez Sweat, Mississippi State
  • 1-9) The Buffalo Bills select WR D.K. Metcalf, Mississippi
  • 1-10) The Denver Broncos select CB Byron Murphy, Washington
  • 1-11) The Cincinnati Bengals select DL Rashan Gary, Michigan
  • 1-12) The Green Bay Packers select WR Marquise Brown, Oklahoma
  • 1-13) The Miami Dolphins select OL Jonah Williams, Alabama
  • 1-14) The Atlanta Falcons select DT Ed Oliver, Houstonusatsi-11271969.jpg
    • There are questions about his size and recent production, but make no mistake, Oliver is compared to Aaron Donald for a reason. He should be an immediate force to be reckoned with in Dan Quinns scheme.

  • 2-45) The Atlanta Falcons select DE Jaylon Ferguson, Louisiana Techjaylon-ferguson-louisiana-tech-153038996
    • The Falcons look to bolster their edge attack with the talented Ferguson. He has the physical traits, can the Falcons get the most out of his potential?
  • 3-79) The Atlanta Falcons select CB Isaiah Johnson, HoustonJOHNSON_Isaiah_Tulsa.JPG
    • Speed and size will be a theme here, but Johnson really has risen up draft boards due to his excellent potential in this league.
  • 4-117) The Atlanta Falcons select WR Emanuel Hall, MissouriEmanuel-Hall.jpg?fit=696,392&ssl=1
    • Speed and size are there, but further development is needed. He tested well, but needs to become a consistent performer.
  • 4-137) The Atlanta Falcons select OL Lamont Gaillard, Georgiausa_today_11993352.0.jpg
    • This home-town hero is a big reason for Georgias excellent rushing attack lately, the Falcons look to groom Macks replacement and allow him to compete at guard.
  • 5-152) The Atlanta Falcons select LB Ben Burr-Kirven, Washingtonwebp-net-resizeimage-3.jpg
    • Size and NFL-fit uncertainty allow this productive college linebacker to fall; the Falcons will enjoy his special teams contributions and attempt to develop a difference maker.
  • 5-172) The Atlanta Falcons select CB Sean Bunting, Central Michigan8995414.jpg
    • Speed and size are there, but development is needed. Should contribute on special teams early.
  • 6-186) The Atlanta Falcons select S Will Harris, Boston College9a2fdc5b44bb46129cd4cce55a00e438-9a2fdc5
    • A fast zone cover safety who excels at special teams, and has room to develop into a serviceable safety.
  • 7-230) The Atlanta Falcons select P Jack Fox, RiceFox_edit.jpg
    • Impressed Falcons scouts at the East-West Shrine game enough to give, a more expensive and older, Bosher the boot.

I’m a bit intrigued. Not a fan of our RB lineup at all so that defense better be dominant.

First even slightly positive mock review from KOG this offseason.  You must have killed it FalconBlood.  Great job!!!

For comparison, KOG said something like this about mine: “I’m underwhelmed by this draft and your mock only reinforces that”. LOL

I like it a lot but I think Bunting will be gone well before the 5th. We'd be lucky if he's available in the 3rd now

I tend to agree with this evaluation....Bunting will be 3rd rounder....and to that point, we have 4 DBs on the roster, of which 3 DBs are starters (Trufant, Oliver, Kazee) for the next two years...I don't see us double dipping with Johnson and Bunting, so I'd stick with one or the other int eh 3rd round...

KOG - I completely agree....While I like Ito...lets not forget, he had season ending injury at the end of the year, not beginning...I doubt he is 100% to start the season, and there is always the possibility he is not the same player upon returning (same issue with Allen and Neal, but different discussion). We also have no idea what the player Freeman is going to be coming back...and he has shown very consistently that he will be injured....

Due to these issues, I still see RB as a fairly HIGH mid round need for this team...replace your Bunting pick with a solid RB and i think your draft moves from B+ to A- category

Like it but still no early OL...sigh. I’d prefer OL in 2nd or 3rd

All indications are that we have our 5 starting OL (Matthews, Carpenter, Mack, Brown, Sambrailo) under contract for the next two years...We also currently have three (3) backup interior OL and a swing OT....

Why would we make a selection at OL when that player will not see the field for two years minimum barring injury? It's just not a good use of draft capital....

At this point, the board needs to accept OL being a mid round selection at best from this FO and coaching staff in 2019....unless they cut Fusco before 3/17 (he's due a $1 million bonus).

To the rest of this mock..

I don't see any more signings on OL....

I dont like Ferguson at all.....

I love Oliver, but I think we go DE, skill position, DT (asuming we sign Shelton). If we don't sign Shelton, then I think that order is flipped somewhat...

Regardless, these are positions the Falcons are drafting in the fist 5 rounds:

DT, DE, RB, CB, WR....I actually think we use draft capital to move around a bit....we already have 63 players under contract for next year, almost all with significant playing time or at least PT at the end of the year....if we sign 1-2 more players in FA and then add 7-8 guys in draft, we are looking at over 70 guys before priority FAs, which is usually about 15 guys....that gets us fairly close to the 90 spot limit....

Right now, the only positions I don't see us having a bonafide starter with no starting experience are: CB2 (and Oliver was drafted to be starter) and DT2 (Senat was drafted to be rotational). The rest have solid starters....

So then look at the positions that are needed now and next year:

DT and DE....then RB, slot WR, possibly TE....

To that point, I actually see our draft as follows:

DE, DT, DE....then DB/RB/WR/OL in no particular order...

I get you are planning for the future. Grady replacement and Mack replacement.  But NFL isn't a perfect world and you have real time holes to fill. Don't like that you've left RT a big question mark. Punter Ok, Bosher should be gone ASAP.

I like your picks. Just finished watching Burr-Kirven highlights and really got the fever to see us grab him. Genuine play-maker with a knack for not only pulling the ball out of the hands of the ball carrier, but then quick enough to release and jump on the loose ball. Also like getting Gaillard from Georgia to be preparing for Mack's retirement. I think he'd be a great center to take over for us.

Not sure about taking Jaylon Ferguson 2nd. He's not a speedster and has problems against the run. His pass rush moves seem pretty limited because he lacks counters (so say some of the scouts anyway.)

Don't know how well or how fast he would acclimate to the NFL. The fact he eclipsed Terrell Sugg's NCAA sack record at Louisiana Tech ain't nothing to scoff at though!

Like the majority of the picks. You've done some good work here!

No. I was telling you that it’s not your fault. Not much to work with

Why would the Giants trade up 3 spots to take Hasking when the teams in front of them don’t need a QB?

It is rumored Gruden is not married to Carr and likes Haskins..
