Grady tagged with the non-exclusive tag

86 posts in this topic

“The non-exclusive tag means that Jarrett can negotiate with other teams, but any team signing him to an offer sheet would have to surrender two first-round draft picks if Atlanta doesn't match the offer.”

He can gauge his value, and if we decide he isn’t worth an offer a team sends, we would get 2 1st round picks. Sounds like this tag is an excellent step towards resigning long term if he continues to be pursued or maybe if he isn’t at all.

See while joe average fan panics this and that the team understands how this works and how to use it to the best advantage for the Falcons if anyone is brave enough to give us the picks and pay Jarrett what he wants so be it.

The payback will be well worth it.

Has a team ever actually given up 2 picks on a tagged player?

its not worth it unless its a QB. Not even Khalil Mack was a clean 2 1sts. Not only are you giving up 2 potential starters that you can have for 5 years on rookie deals, but you are also giving that player a large cap hit day 1. Teams that compete don't have that kind of money to shelf, they rely on the rookie deals to stay good and teams that are bad won't give up a top 15 pick plus another 1st the year after if its not a QB type player to put them over the top.

No one is making any offers for Grady when you can find potentially better and cheaper DT's in this years draft.

They tag Grady, continue Shaub, release Bryant, release Reed and Alford.  Let's see how this works out for them.

That’s actually a great move. At least if we did lose him to a ludicrous offer, we get first round picks.

Except no one in their right mind is going to give up 2 firsts.

I can't recall it happening, especially recently.

Just like Grady's not worth the BIG money, he's not worth 2 first round draft picks either.

I think his camp will finally realize this and cave in to a more realistic deal.

No ones giving up that haul for a non-QB that isn’t the best at the position...except maybe the Raiders or Packers...bc they have multiple picks at the back end of the first and cap space...but still highly doubtful...

Best thing Falcons could do is let both Vic and Grady honthtough FA

Let them sign mega deals..we get two 3rd comp picks as we try to sign some guys at a lower rate along OL and at DB...Then draftvreplacements in the loaded DL class

They won’t...at the end of the day...$15 mil is a 800% increase on Grady’s salary...he’s extstatic to get it...which now sets his low end figure for a long term deal...

Fave it, the Falcons are either gonna pay upwards of $18 mil per year for a DT that is not a Top 5 and barely a Top 10 player at the position or he’s walking in 2020

Posted (edited)

Anything over 19M/yr and I’d happily take two 1sts for Grady

Does it have to be 2 first round picks in the upcoming draft? If so that just just leaves the Raiders and Packers.

I believe it would be their 1st in 2019 and 2020.

Not really it depends on when a team tries to sign the player.

A team could wait until after the draft and then it would be 2020 pick and 2021 pick. Anything before the draft would be obviously this year and next.

Did we tag him with the non exclusive... that means he counts around 12.5 against the cap

Is this confirmed ?

Considering there aren't many teams who have multiple first round picks year in and year out................

You’re thinking of the transition tag.

Ok so it can be 1st round picks in successive years. I should really know, but can't ever remember it happening.

There isn't, but kind of got me thinking about the details and small print if the conditions. Obviously a first round pick this year is more valuable than next year and again a 1st round pick 2 years from now is worth even less (net present value). Given you can trade 1st round picks up to 4 years in future, could 1st round picks in 2020 & 2021 be enough to meet the conditions of the non-exclusive tag?

Surely there has got to be more to it than just two 1st round picks, because that's pretty vague.

Every time someone gets this particular tag, the asking price is always 2 first rounders. The team can take less if they choose but 2 firsts are what they want. If a team with 2 firsts in the current year wants to be that stupid in this particular situation yeah you take it, otherwise there aren't many circumstances where a team will have 2 firsts yearly
