Hurry_Up_And_Buy
1. MATT RYAN (Photo: Patrick McDermott, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $22,800,000 Percentage of Falcons Cap Hit: 11.99 percent 2019 Base Salary: $11,500,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $9,300,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $79,200,000 The quarterback signed what was briefly the richest contract in NFL history last offseason and the first with a $100 million guarantee. He was overtaken soon after by Aaron Rodgers, but Ryan is still among the highest paid players in football. 2. DESMOND TRUFANT (Photo: Kevin C. Cox, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $13,900,000 Percentage of Falcons Cap Hit: 7.31 percent 2019 Base Salary: $9,500,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $3,000,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $14,600,000 The cornerback had his ups and downs this past season, as did the Falcons defense as a whole thanks to those injuries, and now in 2019, Trufant will find himself without Robert Alford in the opposite corner after the Falcons cut him loose. 3. JULIO JONES (Photo: Todd Kirkland, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $13,466,667 Percentage of Falcons Salary Cap: 7.08 percent 2019 Base Salary: $9,600,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $2,400,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $5,333,334 These numbers are going to change. Jones held out briefly last offseason in the hopes of getting a new contract. Instead, the Falcons re-arranged some of the payouts on his existing deal with a promise to give him a new contract for 2019. Atlanta has designated these negotiations as among their most important, and for good reason. 4. VIC BEASLEY (Photo: Jason Getz, USA TODAY Sports) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $12,810,000 Percentage of Falcons Cap Hit: $6.74 percent 2019 Base Salary: $12,810,000 The Falcons picked up the fifth year option on this contract already, but there have been rumblings ever since that the team could in fact move on from Beasley. He had an All Pro outing in 2016 when Atlanta won the NFC, but since then has largely failed to live up to his lofty expectations. After making around $700,000 last season, Beasley is due almost $13 million in 2019. Some analysts have speculated that the team could just cut Beasley outright, given that he has no dead cap number this season. 5. JAKE MATTHEWS (Photo: Icon Sportswire, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $11,089,200 Percentage of Falcons Salary Cap: 5.83 percent 2019 Base Salary: $6,500,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $2,789,200 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $28,456,800 The Falcons have liked and continue to like what they see from the left tackle, signing him to a four year deal worth $75 million after giving them four good years on the blind side. Matthews has served Ryan well as a protector on the edge, and the Falcons hope that he will continue to play up to the terms on that deal. 6. ALEX MACK (Photo: Ken Blaze, USA TODAY Sports) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $11,050,000 Percentage of Falcons Salary Cap: 5.81 percent 2019 Base Salary: $8,500,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $2,300,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $5,100,000 The center has been with the Falcons for three full seasons now, and has given the team some very valuable play in the middle of their line, routinely described by analysts as arguably the best overall center in the league. Mack will become a free agent in 2021 at age 35. 7. RYAN SCHRAEDER (Photo: Jordon Kelly, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $7,750,000 Percentage of Falcons Salary Cap: 4.08 percent 2019 Base Salary: $6,250,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $100,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $3,800,000 This could be another player the Falcons elect to part ways with after the right tackle suffered a notable decline in the 2018 season. Benched late in the year in favor of Ty Sambrailo, Schraeder will be 31 next season, and if the team judges that his advancing age will be matched with decreasing production, they could elect to move on, even while absorbing a nearly $4 million dead cap charge. 8. MOHAMED SANU (Photo: Todd Kirkland, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $7,400,000 Percentage of Falcons Salary Cap: 3.89 percent 2019 Base Salary: $6,000,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $1,400,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $2,800,000 The veteran wide receiver proved once again to be a reliable release valve for Matt Ryan on third down passing plays this past season, even with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley on the field getting more attention, and there is no reason to suggest he will not be so again in 2019. 9. DEVONTA FREEMAN (Photo: Scott Cunningham, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $6,750,000 Percentage of Falcons Salary Cap: 3.55 percent 2019 Base Salary: $3,750,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $3,000,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $9,000,000 The 2019 season will be pretty important to Freeman, who two years ago signed what was then the richest deal for a running back in NFL history, worth $41.25 million. Since then, however, there have been two knee injuries and two concussions. If he fails to adequately recover from those ailments, the Falcons could elect to part ways with him. In 2020, Freeman will see his salary and cap hit jump, but his dead cap number fall to $6 million. 10. RICARDO ALLEN (Photo: Jonathan Bachman, Getty) 2019 Salary Cap Hit: $4,875,000 Percentage of Falcons Salary Cap: 2.56 percent 2019 Base Salary: $3,500,000 2019 Signing Bonus: $1,375,000 2019 Dead Cap Hit: $4,125,000 The free safety was among those players who went down in the wave of injuries on defense early in the season. His absence was tough to bear for Atlanta, who not long before had given him his long awaited contract extension. THE NEXT 10 (Photo: Kevin C. Cox, Getty) Brandon Fusco, RG: $4,850,000 (2.55 percent) Keanu Neal, SS: $3,416,523 (1.8 percent) Jack Crawford, DT: $3,358,334 (1.77 percent) Takkarist McKinley, DE: $2,786,326 (1.47 percent) Matt Bosher, P: $2,545,000 (1.34 percent) Calvin Ridley, WR: $2,477,434 (1.3 percent) Austin Hooper, TE: $2,238,537 (1.18 percent) DeVondre Campbell, LB: $2,186,382 (1.15 percent) Wes Schweitzer, G: $2,078,096 (1.09 percent) Deion Jones, LB: $1,446,342 (0.76 percent) Flying Falcon and PokerSteve

Smiler11
At the point he signed that contract he was a top 10, borderline top 5 CB. He obviously hasn't lived up to the contract but most at the time were advocating to pay the man. Darius Slay and Xavier Rhodes both from the same class as Tru and both similarly up and down over the last 3 years have cap hits of $15.9m and $13.3m this year. Rings
Was a completely different player prior to injury. Here’s hoping he can return to that form. We are yet to see him play with Quinn calling the defense since he was hurt at the end of 16, hopefully Quinn puts him in a better position to succeed. Any kind of pass rush would help all of the secondary out as well. dirtybird2k5
FalconFan13
Actually at the time he signed the contract i had no problem with giving him the contract. Until his injury he was close to a top 5 but for sure a top 10 shut down corner. I would have been super pissed if we had let him walk with the play he was giving every year up until then. I don't know if the injury just isn't something he can come back from fully like he use to be or what but he's not the same CB now as he was then. Im not mad at Dimitroff for doing something he should have done based on what was showed to him up until the time the contract was given. If anything it was Alford who was a walking penalty flag for the most of his time here and they gave him a massive contract as well and i was sorta upset about that one but before last year he played pretty well overall and earned his contract so that one worked out until last season. Brewcrew
It’s misleading to look at one year. This is his worst year for hit and his salary is structured so we will be able to move on any of the last two years without much of a hit. But, yeah, it’s prohibitive and there is no way to drop him this year, so we just have to pray he finds his form again.

vafalconfan
It was a terrible contract and we over- paid him and now we are literally paying for it. DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry
Seems like an awful lot of people in this thread struggle to understand how the market works, how contracts work, etc. Some of the usual suspects obviously have those struggles. Trufant has never been graded lower than a 70 in PFF. Thats baseline for above average/average. 3. 1 contract doesnt stop you from signing your other guys. Its also part of the price you pay when you draft well in the same year or consecutive years. 4. Alford was NEVER better than Trufant. NEVER. 2017 was the closest and Alford had 20 PBUs because he was targeted, he just happen to make plays on the ball that year. Last year he gave up 1000 yards receiving. 5. TD deserves to be fired for 1 guy who has seemed to plateau after being on the rise his first 3 years in the league. Ok. It kinda blurs the line between man and zone and it doesnt allow QBs to read the D efficiently. Trufant is a man corner and is best at man coverage. Still easily our best cover guy and still one of the better starters in the league. Ask Philly or Carolina if they want a good CB. They get toasted.
