You’re being too kind, JDave. Spurrier was embarrassingly bad in Washington.

Have there been any successful coaches in Washington under Dan Snyder?

Spurrier was great in his day but it was a different era and honestly college is a different sport.  Steve wouldn't put in NEARLY enough time to be an effective NFL OC.

He didn't have much QB talent to work with in Washington, but that was partly his fault.

He didn't put in the time it takes to be an NFL coach either by most accounts.

His scheme failed to protect a QB in the NFL. Nfl blitz packages ate him alive and he never adapted his pass heavy spread scheme.

Stubbornness, and a lack of the fine details it takes to win in this league hurt him. The talent wasn't good, but he had a say in that too.

To all of you saying Spurrier wouldn't put in the work necessary to succeed in the NFL, you're spot on.  And don't read too much into the success he's having so far with the Apollos - the way that league works on the inside is nothing like the NFL.  Finally, bear in mind that Spurrier has a gig now that pays a year's salary while only requiring four months of more-or-less actual work.  For a guy like Spurrier, it's a last-stop dream job.
