NCAA hands Missouri a bowl ban

9 posts in this topic

Missouri football has been hit with a postseason ban for the 2019-20 season, as well as five percent reduction in scholarships and other penalties after the NCAA ruled a former tutor at the school "violated NCAA ethical conduct, academic misconduct and academic extra benefits rules" by completing academic work for student-athletes at the school. Missouri's baseball and softball programs have been penalized as well.

As far as the findings with the football program, the tutor completed coursework for six different student-athletes at Missouri, and "completed an entire course for a football student-athlete," according to the NCAA's release. The tutor also helped two Missouri football players complete their math placement exams. The exam is a requirement, and students are supposed to take the test alone and without assistance, but the tutor remained with both players during their exams and helped them finish.

For those wondering, Kelly Bryant will not back away from his commitment to Missouri. The NCAA permits players to willingly transfer during postseason bans.

Anyone on the Missouri roster worth looking at?

All players or just seniors since this is only a 1 year ban?

As far as Bryant goes, seems actually to be a good thing for him... He doesn't have to make a judgement call at the end of the year to sit out and prepare for the draft...

Seniors. Odom has actually confirmed the majority of their seniors have been contacted by multiple schools.

Yeah, Albert Okwuegbunam, who was a Mackey award finalist even though he missed the final 3 or 4 games of Mizzou's season IIRC.

But he's unlikely to want to leave if I had to guess... he passed on the draft this year (he was projected in the back end of the 1st round prior to his injury). He likely wasn't going to play in a bowl game next season unless it was a big deal. And his production was pretty good at Mizzou. I guess he might consider it if he's not happy with QB play, but our offense will be an unknown with Coley taking over.
