Are there any games that you can recall where the Falcons won or lost because of bad officiating?

Bad officiating is a hot topic right now. I would like to know is there any Falcons games you can recall over the years where the Falcons won a game or lost a game because of bad officiating? It can be a playoff game or regular season game. It can be recent or a game that took place way back in the day. The most obvious one toe was the 2016 Richard Sherman PI on Julio Jones that was not called against the Seahawks. The 2012 NFCCG was controversial also on the Roddy White play.

The NFC Championship game against the Niners comes to mind. The ref saw Bowman mug White and no flag. I was pissed. But I still acted with class unlike so fans I know.

Seattle in 2016 when Julio was mugged at the end

The SB that same year when Sanu was thrown down among other things that happened. Still should have won though :bang:

EVERY game we play in NO. Ever.

The playoff game in Philly in 2017.

And some of those are just in the past few years. Talk to some of these older dogs that have been fans for over 40 years. Bet they can tell you some stories.

That's what I'm hoping for.

How bout the phantom 3 straight holding calls on 3rd Downs in the second half of our super bowl on Brian Poole Everytime if I remember correctly.. I mean that tired the defense out and kept the Pats in the game..

That actually helped us because we got a pick 6 by Robert Alfrord on that drive.

We still won the game, but when we ruined the panthers perfect season. We had the ball with little time left and panthers had no timeouts. We somehow committed 3 straight holding penalties, all declined, but all clock stoppers.  We took very little time off and had to punt. Still won obviously but that’s the moment that made me start wondering. <_<

This is the first one that comes to mind. Refs took two TDs from Bobby Christian in this one:

There have been games where bad calls may have influenced the outcome of the game, but to say that you won or lost a game because of a single call is hard unless it's a catch in the end zone called a non catch - because any other call - the outcome is subjective no matter where you are.

The 2012 game missed call stopped us from having the opportunity to win - but to say it made us lose is wrong - we don't know what would have happened if they had made the call.    SF could have stopped us.

Same goes for the calls missed in the SB.   There have been a lot of missed calls for PI throughout games that may or may not have affected the final difference.  The game referenced above is a good example though - where a catch in the end zone is really a catch but points are taken off the board - or a game winning interception is taken back because of a phantom hold somewhere else on the field and then the opposing team scores leaving you no time left.   Those calls definitely cost you the game.

Again - it's hard to say, but bottom line, refs do it all the time - and it's part of the game we have to swallow like a nasty bitter pill.

What immediately comes to mind first. The game in Seattle in 2016 when the refs missed a blatant PI on Richard Sherman against Julio Jones. Fortunately we won 4 straight to clinch the first round bye, thanks to the Cardinals tie and win over the Seahawks.

Been watchin NFL ball since the mid 60s. There are definitely hundreds of ref calls that cost wins. I always believed you have to out play the refs. Most games won on ref calls featured plenty badly executed plays that were just as costly. See the Brees pick Sunday. Turrible. Aint fans need to sue for that.

Yup.   For every bad call, there are 3 bad executions.    We've shot ourselves in the foot more times than the refs.   The dagger in the Saints heart came from Brees - not the ref - and it was a kickers foot that pushed it in.

It's also how they (the refs) helped the Patriots get back in the game.
