Ian Anderson's AAA debut is complete.

3 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 5 K. Things spiraled in the 3rd, Rochester scored 4 in the inning.

Waters and Pache are both 2 for 4 with an RBI.

These days you should completely throw out the first two appearances of any pitcher coming up to AAA for the first time.

OF Michael Harris, the Braves' 4th-round pick this year out of Stockbridge HS, has been promoted to Rome. Harris has been hitting .342/.397/.505 with the GCL Braves. Harris made his Rome debut yesterday, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout.

The last time a Braves prep draft pick made it to Rome in their first pro season was right-handed reliever Rico Reid. He was promoted to Rome after one appearance in the GCL in 2007. Reid was a 25th-rounder out of East Coweta HS. He was out of baseball after 17 appearances in 2008.

The last real prospect to get this treatment was 2006 2nd-round pick Eric Campbell, who got into 7 games with Rome after playing 56 games with the GCL Braves.

Surprised to see S. Langeliers already in our Top 5 prospects list, ahead of William Contreras... any insight on that? I haven't followed both super closely.

Langeliers projects as the better player. His defense is outstanding and his bat is better. His pop time is 1.8, that would be best in MLB right now. The guy has an absolute cannon for an arm, teams wont run on him. He was named top defensive catcher in NCAA. Contreras is no slouch but Langeliers gives him a run for his money.

That's incredible. So how soon can we platoon Langeliers and Contreras and replace McCann and Weeds? Or just replace Weeds?

Langeliers is still a few years away. We'll have to hit the FA market for Flowers replacement and McCanns if he retires. Contreras is probably 2021 at some point.

1B Bryce Ball has been promoted to A Rome from rookie league Danville.

Ball is hitting .324/.410/.676 with an Appalachian League leading 13 home runs in his first pro season after being drafted in the 24th round out of Dallas Baptist University. In addition to leading in homers, Ball ranks first in slugging and runs scored, second in RBI and OPS, and third in batting average.

Ball becomes the seventh 2019 draft pick to escape the rookie leagues in his first season, joining catcher Shea Langeliers, shortstop Braden Shewmake, right-handers Kasey Kalich and Ricky DeVito, and outfielders Drew Campbell and Michael Harris.

Campbell was placed on the injured list to make room for Ball; Campbell had to come out of Saturday's contest after straining his neck.

Bryse Wilson has been money down in AAA. He's at that point where he is "too good" for AAA, but not quite big league ready. Considering he is only 21 though, he still has time. Maybe someone else can shed some light on it, but I've seen a few people on Twitter say he needs to establish secondary pitches.

Anderson also had a much better 2nd outing with Gwinnett going 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 6 K.

Kyle Wright has also been very good since being sent down. In 3 starts, he is: (2-0), 19 IP, 5 ER, 16 H, 2 BB, 20 K. Gives him an ERA of 2.37 and a WHIP of 0.95.

"A few people on Twitter" need to actually watch him pitch. He's got two good secondaries. In the majors however he seems to get fastball-happy, or maybe that's just what's being called. Now, his fastball is by far his best pitch and his secondaries aren't up to that level yet, but "a few people on Twitter" don't really know what they're talking about.

Guys are completely lights out at Gwinnett and then suck major balls up here. We''ve seen this cycle for a handful of years now. WTF is going on?

I'll take your word for it lol. I know his fastball is lights out, but I can't speak much on his other ones because I just don't know.

Yeah, sorry, I just get ticked off because people draw conclusions on the 25 innings that Wilson has thrown in the major leagues and figure that's all there is. He's still developing -- he's only 21, the second youngest player in the International League. His draft contemporaries were Wentz and Muller (both still in AA) and Anderson (just got to AAA). But people expect these kids to drop into the major leagues fully formed. That's just not going to happen with pitchers. Soroka was the freak here, not Wilson/Wright/Toussaint etc.

I think the fact that he has pitched in the majors and is only 21 says something. I don't think any player at 21 is a finished product.

  • 2 weeks later...

While the 2019 Danville Braves were eliminated from the playoffs in the Appalachian League, two Braves received top honors today.

First baseman Bryce Ball and right-hander Mitch Stallings have been named the leagues Player and Pitcher of the Year respectively.

Both Ball and Stallings have been promoted to class-A Rome.

Touki is just having a forgettable year. Last night he went 1.1 IP, 6 H, 7 R. His season ERA is 7.71 in 9 AAA starts. Hes allowed 48 H and 24 BB in 35 innings.

I just read this on twitter. This is so disappointing. Hopefully, someone can get a hold of him and work out his issues because he has too much talent to be getting shelled this way. It isn't just control and BBs, he is getting hit quite often. I haven't seen any advanced metrics on how hard he is getting hit, but he is too electric for this to be the way he fizzles out.

Hes definitely off right now. I dont know if being used as a full time RP for the first time got him out of whack or what. He had a good May, 1.72 ERA for the month but the rest were really bad.

They need to fix his delivery like they did Julio's. That should be the starting point.

Seems Drew Waters was named Southern League MVP

Waters is the first Braves AA prospect to win Southern League MVP since Javy Lopez and Ryan Klesko went back-to-back in 1991 and 1992.

Waters, Pache, and Tucker Davidson were named Southern League Postseason All-Stars.

For Rome, Greg Cullen and Justin Dean named SAL Postseason All-Stars.

For Gwinnett, Adam Duvall named a Postseason All-Star and Damon Berryhill was named Manager of the Year. Berryhill is the first Braves AAA Manager of the Year since Grady Little in 1995.
