falcons007
Let’s look at the pass blocking for some of the RT who are about to hit FA.how did Schraeder compare to them? Sacks: Ryan Schaeder(RS): 7 sacks, Ranked 47, worst in NFL. Ja’waun James(JWJ): same as RS Jordan Mills(JM): 5, ranked 34th. Bobby Massie (BM): 1 sack , ranked 4th best in NFL among all OT. Pass Blocking Effeciency: RS: 96.4% ranked 37th. JWJ: same as RS Jotdan Mills: Same as RS. BM: 97.8%, ranked 8th best among all OT. Total pass blocking failures:( Sacks+Hits+QB pressures): RS: 33, ranked 32 among all Tackles. JWJ: 26, ranked 18 among all tackles. JM: 35, ranked 39. BM: 22, ranked 12th If Falcons go for Jordan Mills or James, it’s swapping one dud for another. Bobby Massie is the only guy in FA who performed at high level. And clearly better than RS. Get Massie or draft a RT. All stats from Pfft.
BlazerSlayer
I suspect Massie will parlay those stats into a big free agent deal, most likely not from Atlanta.

Well I want Falcons to sign the best or not. We got Mack in 2016 who was the best available. Enough of swapping one scrub with another. I rather draft one for long term and go through growing pains. DogIsYourName
I'm not sure how much money we can save by cutting Schraeder, but if it is significant I suggest we do that and pay that towards someone who can play. Obviously the same is true for Schweitzer but I don't think Schweitzer gets paid money, unlike Schraeder. Schweitzer was pulled out of the stands and is playing for free, as far as I know. RING OF HONOR
I'm assuming you're looking at FA RT because of our FART pass blocking...

Schraeder makes too much money to play at this level. It makes no sense to cut Wes who makes around 600k. Keep Wes and if they find some one better, release him after preseason. FalconFanSince1970
Massie or bust. No rookie OLinemen. They usually struggle in year one and perhaps beyond. Yall aint really serious about fixing this Oline. Hopefully Dimi is.

I too am sick of the bargain bin mentality when getting a line man stop wasting prime years of our best players and actually dedicate what it takes to have the line be elite matt with time comfort and confidence will carve any defense. Like i said in another post the year we brought in mack we also were trying to bring in ben jones G so they will be aggressive if need be to bring in ppl so im just hoping that they try this same approach this time around to and shore the line up for a good while.after cody ford draft defense namely the line and lb
Jpg428gggg
Cutting Schraeder makes sense, but cutting Wes does not make sense. He only makes $720K in 2019. Even if he doesn't start, he is good depth to have. It is impossible to find players with starting experience for that cheap.
Ergo Proxy
We are definitely making important moves in FA and the Draft for OL. Its just hard for me to call what they will do; top RT and budget OG? Or top OG and budget RT? Then, figure out a first round starting caliber OL to battle with an incumbent at the remaining spot. No more than 1 rookie in other words and they must beat out the vet. We might have no choice but to cut RS post-6/1. Can we get Ty back at a better rate than that and use other cap space on an OG? Its either that or the OT route. Both would leave a rookie to get challenged.
Hokies&Falcons
Does anyone think that Schraeder might return to form, since he's only 30? I realize that 30 isn't young, but one would think he'd have at least a couple more productive years left. He really seemed to suffer a really rapid decline from 2017 to 2018. Has anyone identified the reason as to why his production/ability fell off so much?

Has anyone identified the reason as to why his production/ability fell off so much? It's an $8M dollar gamble is the problem. He looked slow and lead-footed to me this season. Guys were bending around him with ease, and it's not like he looked great in 2017 either.

It's possible due to a likely pretty thin FA market... but I hope we don't bite. Pretty sure the dude has been the definition of mediocre until this season. To me, 1 year of solid play doesn't outweigh 5 years of being serviceable at best & I'd assume any team worth their salt would be careful about hitching their wagon to a guy who has done absolutely nothing of consequence in his career until he has in a contract year. I'm guessing teams would also want to look into how much of that glowing pass pro grade is the light suddenly coming on for Massie -VS- Chicago having a mobile QB who can buy himself time & an offensive whiz as a HC who may be having the QB roll out a bunch to avoid pressure? I'll passie on Massie.
DMT11
So now its massie - last thread was juwaun James or bust but oh no - hes too good we cant afford him. Folks got to realize how hard it is to build a Oline in todays NFL, it probably the hardest thing to do currently
