Is Mike Smith coming back? SPECIAL TEAMS MAYBE

37 posts in this topic

I wouldn't mind Smitty being hired as ST coach. ST under Smitty was great. Remember the Falcons set an NFL record one year for fewest punt return yards allowed in a season. Eric Weems had multiple kick return TD's too. That was the one area under Smitty that was no doubt was gonna be great.

Game Management and two minute comeback specialist. Ryan and offense was great to watch in final two minutes under Smitty from 2008- 2012.

exact thing I was thinking.

Armstrong was Mike Smiths ST coordinator.

Unless Smith coached special teams before he was a defensive coordinator in Jacksonville, why do we think this would be a position for him? It would be funny to rehire two coaches we fired (though Koetter was a different situation) and then rehire them after they were both fired the day after they played us for their next team.

You do realize Keith Armstrong was the ST Coach under Smitty?

Has a head coach ever gone back to the team that fired him for a lower position? Can't see it happening here.

As for his expertise on game management and comebacks, Smith cost us the Lions game at Wembley and those comebacks were on Ryan running the hurry-up, which teams struggled with, imo.

If you hire Smitty back you give him a FO job away from current players as a courtesy. You don't saddle the current HC with his predecessor while guys Smitty drafted are still on the team.

Bring in Smith for game management?

The guy who's explanation for stopping the clock while up late was, "they probably would have called a timeout anyway?

Did you guys forget his last year or two with the clock management? And his late game ideas? Remember Detroit in London? Or the squib kick when we regained the lead against Seattle in the playoffs?

I love what mike smith did to turn this franchise around but

Lets not bring him back and say we did.
