See Freeman and Jackson. Smitty didn't give Freeman any meaningful snaps because he waned him to learn to pass block and play some special teams. Jackson's Knees were shot but he still continued to start.

Free got more touches than Quizz or Tone as a rook and had 500 yards and 2 TDs.

LMAO. Now post up the rookies Quinn started. You'll see it's basically the same number and same circumstances.

Its not even close, there were years when we didnt get 1 rookie to start (2009, 2012). Quinn had VB44, Jarrett, TC, Neal, Jones, Campbell, Hooper, Takk, Duke Really, Ridley, Senat, Oloukon and Ito play significant snaps from the get go.

  • VB44 - 1st rounder
  • Jarrett - 2 starts at end of year
  • Coleman - yes, then lost his starting job to Free
  • Neal - 1st rounder
  • Jones - 2nd rounder
  • Campbell - yes
  • Hoop - 3 starts as a rook
  • Takk - 0 starts as rook
  • Riley - yes
  • Ridley - yes
  • Senat - 2 starts as rook
  • Foye - didn't see field until injuries set in
  • Ito - didn't see field until injuries set in

So either 1st/2nd round starters, spot starters or injury replacement starts. Hmm. The only year Quinn started a bunch of rooks was in 2016 when he had to start rooks because he gutted his 2015 defense.

The point is anyone can come in, play well and start for Quinn, Smitty went on record saying he doesn't like rookie starters and he had none outside the first round and sometimes the second round unless it was because of injury replacement. He wanted you to shine on Special teams, and it took him 3 seasons to even have rookie OTAs.

Something crossed my mind today when reflecting on this presser. If I recall correctly Blank usually sits in on these season finale pressers. He was not present this year. Not sure if that was because he was in divorce court, still celebrating the United Championship or just not wanting to be seen with two potential lame ducks. I'm thinking it was the latter.
