k-train
"Today the Falcons announced that they are parting ways with offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong. I spoke with coach Dan Quinn on Monday and, as you’d expect, he said the three moves were “difficult decisions,” noting that all three men are “excellent coaches” and that he has a ton of respect for each of them on a personal level as well. The deciding factor to move on all three coordinators, however, boiled down to the fact that the vision Quinn has for this team, specifically in its style of play, wasn’t there on a consistent basis. “We know we have a group of players here we are excited about and in order for us to consistently play true to our identity in all three phases we thought we needed some changes,” Quinn said. One of those changes will involve Quinn himself, who will assume the role of defensive coordinator moving forward."https://www.atlantafalcons.com/news/tabeek-falcons-are-making-coaching-changes-and-here-s-why I like that he's placing his money where his mouth is, but am a bit concerned that having his head wrapped up so much in play-calling on D could lead to him not being able to focus on the things he needs to which have been the major knock on him thus far as a HC... like clock management, overriding bad calls from the OC, etc.
FalconKick
Nah. I love it. There's so many people in the analytics department now for everything else. It really is a science. Get a seasoned OC who you can let control the offense and we're good
Sun Tzu 7
Quinn knows this is it. Another non playoff season and it's goodbye
Geneaut
Betting on himself. Got to admire a man willing to do that on the biggest stage.
VoiceofReason95
Nah this is good, I'm sure we all remember the 2016 defense being an unmitigated disaster, then quietly taking off and being good at times once Quinn quietly started calling plays. Defense is why he was hired, so he might as well do it a full season and make it work again like 2016 or else.

IA Falcon07
Lot of coaches call plays across the league. I actually take the opposite stance, being more involved in the game could put you in a better mindset of the flow of the game.

Ergo Proxy
Just hire a specialist on situational calls so it’s not as impulsive “I believe in my guys” timeouts or decisions when situational football is on the line. And nail OC hiring, no doubt. Armstrong was the guy a year too late.
MilleniumFalcon
The defense got remarkably better when Quinn took over from Richard Smith in 2016 and they went crazy in the playoffs that season.
oxygencube
Yolo. I appreciate him having the balls. He clearly has a vision and is committed to it. Our 2016 playoff run was the best D we’ve had in a long time and it was when he was playcalling. We almost won the whole thing when he was doing both jobs. Why not try it for a whole season? He’s putting it all on the line and I respect that. Next year is boom or bust.

Rappaport is saying Kubiak would be a strong candidate for the job. As if we all didn't already know that but I'd try to do hand stands if that were to happen

He'd probably have free reign here from Quinn so it is a good spot for him.

shock
Yep this is what I want. DQ take over at DC, and bring in a guy like Kubiak to be the OC on the sidelines and help DQ a bit with gameday responsibilities.
atljbo
I love it... This is what he do..... What this also means he must hire a guy as the OC who can completly run the Offense like Shanny. To me thats Kubiak and Gase.... I feel like everythig point to Gary Kubiak...... Runs a similar scheme to Shanny, .. Knapp (our now QB Coach) was the QB Coach under Kubiak in houston

The basics of his scheme already established, top players and a head coach that would let him alone. I bet HE would know where he was on the field and run the ball three times and then kick the field goal to win on the biggest stage..... falcndave
This is exactly what I mentioned in several threads I hoped would happen if Quinn stayed around. Just as Fisher personally runs the offense in LAR, Quinn should run the defense in ATL. He is only here to make the defense work. Time to put up or shut up. Just the way it should be.
