Summerhill
When Dan Quinn was hired in 2015, he signed a 5-year contract. If you can't count, that means he was under contract through the 2019 season. In July of this year, Arthur Blank, apparently pretty darned confident after the 2016 and 2017 seasons, signed Quinn (and Dimitroff) to 3-year extensions through the 2022 season. Now the Falcons are 4-9, have lost 5 in a row including 4 by double digits, and in general look like one of the worst teams in the NFL. I'm not saying Quinn needs to be fired, but if he does, Blank made things much more expensive for himself for no real reason. What was so imperative about extending Quinn when he had 2 years left on his contract?

jlrfalcon
Actually, Dan Quinn is relatively cheap compared to most HC's (#18 in league) at $4.5m and compared to his best players. http://coacheshotseat.com/NFLCoachesSalaries.htm Edited December 10, 2018 by jlrfalcon
Matt_The Iceman_Ryan
Another thing I never understood? Arthur has all the leverage...where is Dan Quinn going to go at that time? No where, so why extend... These coaches/GMs should work out their contract...no extensions unless SB in hand... This is why DQ isn’t going anywhere...will cost AB a cool $20 million (not knowing buyout clauses, etc).
falcons007
It depends how much of it was guaranteed. Rams fired Jeff Fischer the same year they gave him an extension. AB will pull the trigger if he doesn’t see progress.
