The Julio non-catch

4 posts in this topic

Does anyone have a still image or good angle shot that we can see to put this to bed?

Was it truly a bad pass by Ryan (as Charles Davis said) or poor effort by Julio??

I didn't see any other shot. It happens to literally every QB. Julio seemed to slow up at one point but either way, it doesn't matter. Matt Ryan can make those throws, Julio Jones can catch them, they just didn't connect on that one. Next week he'll under throw a ball and everyone will complain about his noodle arm.

What is needed is a QB that also has halfway decent accuracy with deep passes - a cannon arm so they get there with zip would be a nice bonus

There are two different methods of throwing the deep pass

Example 1. Brady to Randy Moss. Moss beats his man, throws up his arm to signal that he has his man beat. Brady throws the pass to Moss. Moss putting up his indicates that the Brady has options on this pass play.

Example 2. Ryan to Julio. This play is designed with only one option. Julio beats his man, Ryan throws the ball to a safe area. Julio must locate the ball and go catch it. He will have to adjust his speed just to locate the ball.

It was the same with Ryan to Roddy White.

There is no right or wrong to either method. It's based on the ability of the QB and receiver.

Ryan threw a deep ball to Hall and Hall caught it in stride. Ryan also overthrew Hall on a deep ball. It happens.
