Coaching changes may be coming

NFL insider notes: Panthers, Falcons could join Packers in making coaching changes soon

Plus the Ravens continue to shine and more from around the NFL in Week 13

Falcons with more questions than answers on offense

The Falcons are a total mess. Matt Ryan was beaten and battered before an empty and yawning stadium that is going to host the Super Bowl in a couple of months. His offensive line was punched in the chops, repeatedly, and the defense was methodically rolled and flattened by Baltimore's rushing attack to the tune of another 200-yard game.

But let's be honest, when you are paying your QB $75 million in the first two years of his new deal, it's always going to be about the offense. The Falcons have no plan or intent, it seems, and offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian made several questionable decisions yet again. Running -- when you really can't run the ball -- on fourth-and-1, into the heart of Baltimore's defense for a loss, rather than spread them and pick on a depth defensive back, was beyond foolish. It was compounded on a critical third-and-one later in the game, when Ryan made way for receiver Mohamed Sanu to attempt a 30-yard pass downfield that overshot Julio Jones. The Falcons rarely saw the ball after that, slumping to 4-8.

Owner Arthur Blank has showed restraint far longer than many of his peers have thought possible. I can't imagine that doesn't change come January.

Let the chopping begin

Dan Quinn's teams are "all over the place" - you never know from year-to-year what you are going to get out of a Dan Quinn coached team.  "Coach Brah" - I'm your friend.

Sarkisian had his moment of glory at Washington, but the dude has been badly outcoached 4 weeks in a row now.

I was at the Washington game, and I wondered what happened after that big day.

I just don’t think Dan Quinn is intelligent enough to out-coach anyone in this league. That puts a lot of stress on your personnel, knowing you have to pick up the slack of your coach.

He was doing it when he was coaching the defense in 2016. Routinely we were holding other teams to 10-14 points while our offense was racking up 30. Thats before the soft zone was initiated and we almost let most of the teams come back on us.  He needs to accept Sarkisian as a failure for Atlanta. He regressed the more we gave him control of the offense.

This ^^^

Remember when we traded for Levitre? La Confora said multiple NFL personnel executives thought the move was absolutely ridiculous. Not marginal, like we overpaid a little -- but like it was completely the dumbest move ever and anyone in the know couldn't believe the foolishness of it.

Based on Levitre's performance since then, La Confora obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

If you read La Confora's article, the section about the Falcons is nothing but speculation on his part. No insider knowledge, just this fool's opinion. If that opinion was worth anything, a NFL team would be paying him for it already.

What DQ needs is 2 NFL proven experienced coordinators. I personally don't see DQ going anywhere anytime soon unless he sticks with the garbage coordinators he has now. Sark and Manuel have failed by not being more detail oriented. They are the ones being outcoached more so than Quinn. A better knowledgeable person at those 2 coaching positions should turn things around.

We held teams to under 16 points 4 times, and they were struggling teams. Also in 2016 we had a record setting type offense that put incredible pressure on opposing teams, and often took them out of their game plan.

agreed.   We need to hire a talented OC to be head coach and get a battle-tested grisly vet like Wade Phillips or the Cowboys DC to run a defense.   The best part of Quinn is his eye for talent.   Dimitroff got magically better when taking direction from Quinn.

Washington was always a super overrated team that had good defensive numbers because they played bad offenses and had a ball control offense that kept their defense off the field. Any time we have played a good defense during the Sark era we have looked terrible.

Yea we did but when we didnt hold under 20 we lost too often. 20 pts should have been enough with our offense. Yea it forces other teams to press when you score early and often. Last year we couldnt get any consistent offense vs any of the top half defenses we played. The Miami, Buffalo, Minny and Philly playoff game were especially frustrating.

Exactly. DQ's worth to the franchise is his ability to evaluate talent for his coordinators needs. He needs coordinators with a proven resume to put all  together like KS did.

It's safe to say the Sark hire was an obviouse gaffe at this point. Our offense is really not any better than it was last year. Our passing numbers look nicer because we feasted on poor pass defense early on in the season, but now that we have faced some better defenses we look absolutely inept once more. I'm not saying we should be striving for 2016 numbers... with this o-line and the injury to Free and our guards that is unrealistic. However, setting 15 year record lows with Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Sanu, and Ridley on the team should be inexcusable.
