From an NFL scouting guru at the Ravens game - Falcons need to draft 5 OL/DL next year

A minimum of 5 is a ****ing assessment. We need and OT and 2 interior OLs, including one who can replace Mack at Center in a couple of years. We also need an edge rusher and a DE/DT hybrid like Clayborn. That's 5.

The soiled diapers we have in the OL room this year need to be sent home walking. Not even a bus ride for these frauds. The OL coach needs to have his car burned and be made to repay his salary.

Yeah, it needs to be a combination draft + strategic free agents. Drafting 5 rookies replacing vets would be another ugly season.

Yeah this is not a reasonable solution. The issues are really about scheme. It looks like other teams know rather cleanly how to attack the falcons on both sides of the ball and the team can't or won't adjust. There has been a pattern over the past few weeks.

Quinn found Clayborn and Poe at the bargain bin, but we lost them both this past offseason. That hurt.

Schraeder's drop off plus Levitre's age and our need for guards is hitting, and Mack has dropped from Awesome to merely Very Good.

So we need Quinn to do what he usually does with the D line, and we need and overhaul to the O line.

It’s a combination of things. Easy to figure out scheme when there’s no running game at all.

Right. Sadly on the defensive side of the ball, they just keep running up the middle and the Falcons did nothing to adjust to stop it. The Ravens don't have an overpowering offense or oline. The Falcons just couldn't call a different defensive play.

So true, our defensive play calling has been abysmal all year. Folks will use the injury excuse, but our coaching has been bad this year top-to-bottom, both sides of ball.

Nobody could figure us out in 2016, now we’re the easiest team in NFL to scheme against. Again, on both sides of ball.

If I were Quinn, I would bench Schraeder immediately and bring back Toilolo. He did better when he had to fill in as an emergency RT that one time. In all seriousness, we have nothing to lose anymore. Throw Gono out there and see what he's got. Schraeder has got to go. He's been awful and is going to get Matt severely hurt.

You're right. Teams know not to run east or west because that would be to our advantage with our speed. Over the last few weeks, teams figure they will just run between the tackle and overbear our small linemen. It has been working thus far.

I hope someone sends that tweet to the FO.  I am surprised with the amount of hits and sacks each week that Matt Ryan has remained so durable in his later years.  It's a minor miracle that he continues to march out there week-after-week with that OL.  He doesn't get near enough accolades for simply remaining upright.  He's Wolverine.

Is the goal to be just decent on the defensive line? This recent strategy of bargain bin shopping hasn’t resulted in a dominant line. They need to draft a player or two that will begin to push the defense towards elite territory.

If I understand correctly, the defense was built to deal with attacking the ball once it is in the hands of the runner. That's why there is so much speed. They sit back wait for the throw then everyone goes to stop it. That works when facing a team that plays right into that. Unfortunately for the Falcons, everyone watches film and sees the exploits. When you see the Ravens they put a lot of speed on the defense as well, but use it to attack the QB. It's working for them. This reactive style defense isn't working.
