falconidae
If Ryan carries this team back to the super bowl, it'll be an amazing feat, hopefully one that isn't wasted by the coaching staff this time.

People love to hate, but not having 2016 Freeman is really hurting us. People used to complain that we couldn't close out games, but now they're seeing what it really looks like when a team lacks a closer at RB. jidady
Something that's not getting mentioned enough is our lack of turnovers this season. A lot of the times we stopped ourselves last year were those self-inflicted wounds on strange bounces. Without those fluke interceptions setting us back, the offense is truly dynamic albeit one dimensional.

I was told by intellectually correct or whatever his name is, that the rules are the reason behind these qbs putting up these numbers and scores being so high. Do you think the rules are truly the influence behind so many qbs putting up great numbers this year or is it just a talent thing. I didn’t even realize Brees hasn’t thrown a pick at all until listening to Some sports show today. I don't think it is the rules because they really haven't changed in 40 years, and we still see the DBs holding on every single play and usually getting away with it. Offenses have just gotten way more sophisticated and the screen game is used so frequently now that it is driving up the completion percentages and tilting the TD / INT ratios way in the QBs favor compared to 35 years ago, when most of the passes were high risk. Until defenses figure out a way to get through that line to Brees - he'll put up amazing stats. He's only been sacked 9 times this year - and over half of those resulted in a penalty which gave them the first down anyway. New Orleans ranks #3 in least sacks given up and #1 in least QB hits with 20. Falcons rank 23rd in sacks given up and 29th in QB hits to give some perspective. A big part of that is the design of the offense. The Saints offense gets the ball out of Brees hand's quickly and he doesn't throw it very far. We like to throw it deeper. There are a number of amazing stats associated with the Saints offense this year, but probably the most amazing stat is that he has connected with his number 1 receiver, Michael Thomas, on 53 of 58 targets. That is ABSURD! But it's also an indication that most of those are very short passes. A lot of them are screens.

I know it's like suppose to be some taboo around here to mention this, but Sark's history of drinking problems is going to keep him from getting a NFL head coaching job for years. Ryan Fitzpatrick got benched with a 114 passer rating. Derek Carr is completing 72% of his passes but the Raiders can't score. Eli Manning is averaging 295 yards a game, has a 69% completion ratio, a 7.7 ypa average, and a very solid 94.1 passer rating and the whole world is saying he sucks now. So the measuring sticks have definitely changed.

Eli manning has been terrible because his oline is horrebdous and he is the second coming of drew bledsoe in the pocket. An absolute statue. His check downs to barkley and robert alfords coverage has been his onky saving grace

If, and this is a big if, Atlanta makes it to the playoffs. I will be almost completely due to the play of the QB. No defense, crap Oline, terrible running game. Ryan carried this team in 2012 and I think he might just do it this year. Freeman being out and Coleman underperforming have done something that I had hoped for a long time and that is the coaches putting the game on Ryan. He is going to have to throw 300+ yards every game. He is going to have to put up 70% completion percentage every game. I think the number of TD's is going to go up if we can correct stupid mistakes like not moving before the snap. Like I said, it is a big if, but if Ryan can keep doing what I think most of us hope he can do, he might lead us back to the playoffs. It's a long shot for sure. I'll say this as well. That Thanksgiving game and the one two weeks later in Green Bay are huge. I can see both of those games becoming shoot outs and if Ryan can take charge and pull out one win of those two, it will be a feat. If we make the playoffs and even win just one game, Ryan deserves the MVP. I'll add this. With the number of injuries, if we were to make the playoffs and win a game. Ryan to me will be one of the best in the NFL hands down. No more of this elite / not elite BS. He would be on the level of someone like Rodgers and just behind Brees and Brady. No QB leads a team to the playoffs with three starters on offense on IR and three defensive starters on IR and makes the playoffs. His numbers for the year will have to be phenomenal and he will have to put the entire team on his shoulders. Big IF.

The waters have settled a little and the truly great ones are separating themselves from the rest of the pack. Mahomes is legit. We know Brees is top shelf even at 40. Rodgers is doing Rodgers things even on one leg. Goff cooled off but he's still solid. Rivers is having a really good season. Brady doing what he does every year. Ryan is showing that 2016 wasn't a flash-in-the-pan, one-hit wonder type season, and I didn't think it was given that this system is really tuned to his strengths.
