Mods, what's the problem?

167 posts in this topic

I've had some of my threads closed and/or moved.  And now I see others it's happening to.  Most recently Falcon Jedi thread.  Jedi thread and mine have been jokes and it's very clear it's a joke.  However a Mod is getting upset/offended over people trying to make a laugh of things.  (People handle situations differently).

No one is attacking or spewing hate. Its jokes. So is that now a rule for TATF to not make jokes?

I've seen rival central vanish because of mods and trying to establish rules. Then ABF had rules that almost destroyed that place.  And now we have a Mod that's getting offended over jokes.

Personally, in my years since 2001 on the boards, ive seen Mods get involved in too many threads, and a lot of good threads got moved or deleted, and often posters suspended. Shiney McShine was one of the most infamous ones to destroy threads and incite arguments with people (especially me, he hated me the most) and he would ban us when we upset him. Thats not right

I really think that Members should be allowed to post freely - within the terms of the COC -without Moderators getting involved in the discussions.

I understand when certain threads or posts violate the COC, then removal is warranted. But as long as nobody has violated anything, and we're just having fun then just let it be.

The 3 AM Club threads were Epic back in the day, and the Mods just let us play and share music and get pumped up for Sundays game. I miss those late nights. We never went to sleep until 7 or 8 in the morning. It was a huge Pep rally Party every saturday night. Those were fun times

I just texted him to let him know you're talking about him. He will be so flattered. He's been my friend and gracious host for the past 18 years of me visiting Atlanta for games. We will have to make a toast to you when I go down for the Ravens game.

Also, I really miss Shiney as a Mod. Whenever i'd get reported, he'd just throw it away. HA! Suck it, haters!

Also: Once someone brings up the COC, it's a pretty clear sign that they are a **** poster.

I think i'll go for a mod position. Then you're all ******. Bad joke? Two-week ban.

The way the team is this year MORE jokes and humor should be allowed

More humor definitely needed. Here you go:

CHILI JUDGING CONTEST: A Texas Chili Contest -

The notes are from an inexperienced Chili taster named Frank,

who was visiting from Canada.

Frank: "Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a

chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment

and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking for

directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was

assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili

wouldn't be all that spicy and, besides, they told me I could have free

beer during the tasting, so I accepted". Here are the scorecards from

the event:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 1 Mike's Maniac Mobster Monster Chili
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.

Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor.. Very mild.

Judge # 3 -- (Frank) Holy ****, what the **** is this stuff? You

could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put

the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 2 Arthur's Afterburner Chili
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.

Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.

Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what I'm

supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people

who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more

beer when they saw the look on my face.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 3 Fred's Famous Burn Down the Barn Chili
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick. Needs more beans.

Judge # 2 -- A beanless chili, a bit salty, good use of peppers.

Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose

feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by

now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back,

now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting ****-faced

from all of the beer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 4 Bubba's Black Magic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.

Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.

Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was

unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out tastebuds? Sally,

the barmaid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. That 300-lb.

***** is starting to look HOT...just like this nuclear waste I'm

eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 5 Linda's Legal Lip Remover
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.

Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.

Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and

four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when

I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my

tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if

I'm burning my lips off. It really pisses me off that the other judges

asked me to stop screaming. Screw those rednecks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 6 Vera's Very Vegetarian Variety
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers.

Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb.

Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I **** myself when I farted and I'm

worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that slut Sally. She must be kinkier than I thought.

Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my *** with a snow cone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 7 Susan's Screaming Sensation Chili
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.

Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am

worried about Judge # 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.

Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world

sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava

like **** to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing, it's too painful.

Screw it; I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chili # 8 Tommy's Toe-Nail Curling Chili
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judge # 1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.

Judge # 2 -- This final entry is a good, balance chili. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge # 3

farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make it. Poor fella, wonder how he'd

have reacted to really hot chili.

I joke around here all the time....It's the only way to stay sane and be a Falcons fan at the same time.

Me too. Only things I have ever gotten were a two-week ban in 2012 (Rev Hal), and a warning in 2014 (Tuggle 2).

The art of knowing how to be funny or an a-hole without crossing a line is one to learn. Mashburn is fine...the others know who they are.

So youre on Team Shiney huh? And you have him on your cell phone to text him like that?

Here is something you can text Shiney McShine - your Idol Mod - tell him that Jedi gives him my love. Tell Shiney that I dont miss him at all and i am so happy he is not here any more. Tell Shiney that the memories we shared will never be forgotten. All the fights and arguments that I won against him will always be cherished.

To the contrary, mods let too much go by here. There's a nonsensical Trufant/Peterson thread right now that doesn't deserve the underlying technology required to post it. It's not just trolling. It's the stupid, lazy kind that makes me sad that the person is that transparently desperate for attention. That's the sort of thing this board doesn't need.

Mods are the filter that elevates the level of discourse here. If you're falling under that bar, it's on you to do better, not for them to pretend like you don't suck.

The Mods are here to Moderate - not to Influence or distract with their commentary. And certainly not incite or aggravate the posters who are not violating the COC, and just having fun conversation.

And this is why people like me are always stepping on egg-shells, tip-toeing the line with trying to Lighten the Mood and make Humor in times  of Darkness around here. Im not causing any problems around here. Nothing i say is going to prevent you from paying your light bill.

The problem is when someone like me makes light of bad situations with humor, then it seems to draw debate which turns into confrontation and ends up in someone getting banned or suspended. And thats just not right IMO.

How elementary is that.

As for the second, that's the type of thing that made him a complete POS mod

one of the problems is that This board is too sensitive, I’ve seen posters get in trouble for such crazy , stupid and pointless things on here. It really gets annoying

Dude one deleted my post containing a completely legal and safe product to ease the mind. Not close to breaking the COC. Some, not all,  just let the power get to them. It's sad when they forgot they were regular joes at one time.

I really do love our "Big Lebowski" Mod. He seems to be a cool guy. But the thing is when you take the Mod job, you have be able to separate from being a Poster, and a normal Member, from being a Moderator. And in the past most Mods were former board members,  so it can be difficult to release. IMO you cant get rude or into rants any more when you become a Mod. Thats the sacrifice you have to make. You cant let personal feelings or opinions get in the way of doing your job. You have to be completely objective and un-biased. And most of all not insulting.

Because if you get insulting with me, or us, and we insult you back - then you get to hit the big red Ban Button... and that scares us

The slightest bit of authority changes some people. About an hour ago, Larry told me to "Go away, child". Keep in mind that I was a 2nd lieutenant who led a company of men for 3 1/2 tours in Afghanistan. And he's just some random guy on the internet.
