The Phillies can afford 5/70 easily and still sign Machado and Corbin if they want. Nicasio was a fine reliever very recently.

They got an All-Star caliber shortstop and two useful arms for a young player they'd soured on and a high-priced guy they didn't want anymore. They improved their line-up, pitching, and defense without surrendering a single prospect. It's a great trade for Philadelphia, and a terrible trade for Seattle.

Yep, great deal for the Phillies. Hate to say that. Mets deal was terrible but the Phillies made out like bandits here. But thought it was a decent deal for the M's until they put Pazos in. That part makes no sense to me.

Thought all offseason that would be a good move for the Nationals.

If I were them I would now:
1. Sign DJ Lemahieu or another glove-first 2B to shore up the infield defense.
2. Sign Daniel Murphy to platoon w/Zimmerman at 1B.
3. Not re-sign Harper. It's Robles time.
4. Get another high-leverage bullpen arm. Zach Britton makes some sense.

The Nats top 3 SPs will cost them $525M.

According to Buster Olney it was the 6th year from DC that got Corbin. He was pushing for 6 and most would only do 5. Corbin throws a lot of slider and teams cited the history of elbow issues for pitchers that throw so many sliders. DC took the plunge and it paid off.
