Ito Smith

Ranked #15 in Running Back Class

Height 5’9” Weight: 190

College: Southern Miss

Strong points: A water-bug type mover with the ball in his hands, Smith has the elusiveness and burst to give defenders fits when working in space. His lateral agility is tremendous; his jump cut is good enough to make defenders whiff, and he has the innate feel for setting up defenders at the second level. He maintains speed when turning the corner on the perimeter, and he also has enough straight-line speed to hit the home run. He’ll be an immediate asset in the passing game, especially on screens and swing passes. He has soft hands and easy body control to be developed as an option to play in the slot or split out wide. He proved himself against top-end competition.

Weak points: He’s undersized, and Smith isn’t going to do much work between the tackles or be able to serve in a work-horse capacity. At his size, blitz pick-up will be an issue.

Summary: He might be more gadget player than traditional back at the next level, but Smith prototypical satellite back skill set should translate.

Final Grade: 4th/5th round.

He's an interesting player too me if he can develop the pass catching and route running I can safely say Nick Williams will never wear a Falcons uniform again.

Did he ever do kick off or punt returns?  Would like to see that.  With his quickness and ability to break tackles, might be a good spot for him while he's RB3.

Ito Smith returned kick-offs during his first two seasons with Southern Miss, but not during his last two seasons with them.  However, no punt returns in any season at Sothern Miss.
