We must be excluding Donald

Aaron Donald is probably the best interior pass rusher I've ever seen but I don't think he has the same all-rounded skillset as Grady. Grady's ability to play both the 1 tech and 3 tech at an equally high level is extremely rare.

That's kind of the point I was making. Sure if you offered Donald straight up for Grady I'd bite your hand off.

He's a beast. There are better pass rushers in the league and there are better run stoppers, but I'm not sure there is a better all round defensive tackle in the league right now.

I love Grady Jarrett but I am absolutely certain that Aaron Donald is the best DT in football by a spectacularly wide margin.

2017: 55 tackles (34 solo), 15 TFL's (tied for lead with Donald), 4.0 sacks, 13 QB hits, 39 total pressures

Should have gone to a pro-bowl with those numbers.

In 2018 I'm projecting: 65 tackles (40 solo), 18 TFL's, 8.0 sacks, 15 QB hits, 45 total pressures.

275?  that is 315lbs my friend!  assuming bar is 45lbs and all those are 45lb plates.

45 x 7 = 315lbs

He is going to cost us $15M/yr, and he is worth it too.

I would like to see Grady double his sack production.   He's averaged 3.5 sacks/yr the last two years - w/ his ability, he should get 6 sacks per year on average.    Donald averages 10 sack/yr which is phenomenal - so I don't think 6 per year is asking too much.

Donald almost exclusively is asked to penetrate and disrupt.  Often....Grady is asked to Anchor at the POA. He plays a whole lot of 1-tech.  I think  averaging around 4 sacks along with leading the league in TFLs is well.  I mean sure....we can always ask and want for more but I think he is doing a fantastic job.   Also to get Sacks as a DT, you need to have edges who can contain while you collapse pocket.  Clayborn and B. Reeds didnt exactly blow the doors off.

i remember we all thought the Falcons should have taken him in the 2nd round! :D

I think he dropped due to his size more than anything.

My favorite pick of all time maybe.  Talk about value!  MR was a brilliant pick as well.  The JJ pick, with all the second guessing was amazing too!

I understood the 2nd guessing of the Julio trade when it happened - and even over first year or two of his play - but now?  people that complain about Julio trade to this day - they need to be riding the short bus!

Despite all that...The only thing people see are the sacks.

John Randle lite in terms of build and abilities. Hoping for 2.0, which is a real possibility.

I noticed he's also starting to grow a bit of a personality the longer he's in the league. He's letting people know he's there with his play and his mouth and I like it.

Hence he is probably playing with a little bit of a chip on his shoulders....and that's a good thing.

Pay that man his money.  It’s tragic he played for $600,000 last year.  Better be no TATF whining when his deal is inked.  This man has earned every single penny

Makes me almost long for the good ole days when there wasn't a salary cap. It's going to be a monster trying to re-up him and Deion Jones and Neal...

A persistent blind spot in the league.

If you're a short-ish bowling ball at DT, you're probably going to get overlooked. And then you're going to get underdrafted. Then you're going to end up being a + player and no one will understand how it happened.

I agree - and w/ Aaron Donald and Grady Jarrett as your guide, I am not hung up on the height thing as long as you are at least 6'0" or even 5'11"......that is why I am OK with Maurice Hurst who is a little small-ish as well - IF - Falcons like everything else about him.

In some ways, I believe it can be an advantage for shorter DTs - better leverage and they can get under the OG/OT's - low man can win the leverage battle.
