Indians release Melvin Upton after he hit .189. probably marks the end of his career.

They also cut loose Ryan Hanigan too. Might be the end of the line for him as well.

That's fine, I usually sleep through Yankees-Red Sox match-ups anyway.

Exactly. One of their spring games this year went nearly 4 hours. WTF?

Alex Cobb signing with Baltimore. Reportedly 4 years $50-60M.

4 Years/$57M. AAV of $14.25M. That's a great team friendly deal in today's market.

Padres OF Alex Dickerson to undergo TJS and miss the 2018 season. Dickerson played well in his rookie year in 2016 but missed all of 2017 with back issues which eventually led to surgery.

Korean amateur shortstop Ji-Hwan Bae has signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates for a $1.25M bonus.

Bae had announced he was going to sign with Atlanta back in September, but MLB never ratified the deal. It was supposed to be a $300K bonus, but the team had agreed to add $600K under the table. This was one of the violations that MLB punished the Braves for.

The federal government is close to passing a bill that would exempt minor league players from certain labor laws. They wouldn't receive overtime protection as part of it. Teams would only be required to pay them the equivalent of 40 hours at minimum wage. No matter how many hours they practice, train or spend playing a game. That pay also stops when the season ends. There's no money coming in during the winter. As most of you know the bonuses for the majority of minor league players is little to nothing.

Here's my question: Could we trade for him? Or are we banned from these players as long as we're serving the punishment?

It's such a strange situation to get locked out of player acquisition of any kind.

Boston SP Steven Wright has been suspended the first 15 games of the season. Wright was arrested for a domestic disturbance in December. Wright never struck his wife but verbally abused her and prevented her from calling 911. Wright will likely be on the DL to start but the suspension doesn't begin till hes activated. Wright will not appeal.

Bumgarner was hit by a liner in the left hand. It's broken and will require pins to be put in tomorrow. He's expected to miss two months.

Yasmany Tomas was optioned to AAA Reno by the Diamondbacks. He is still owed $46M over the next three years, and couldn't make the squad even with an injury to Steven Souza that will put him on the DL to start the season.

I remember the Braves being linked to him before he signed with the D-Backs. Braves dodged a major bullet with him.

Also, hasn't Rusney Castillo with the Red Sox been another major international bust?
