Draft; A look at pass rushers

Recommended Posts

Earlier this week, I looked at some Defensive Tackles in the upcoming draft, and also discussed Dontari Poe: https://www.thefalcoholic.com/2018/1/22/16916514/a-falcons-centric-look-at-the-2018-nfl-draft-defensive-tackle-edition

In this article, I look at some of the pass rushers and discuss a few players as well: https://www.thefalcoholic.com/2018/1/24/16923866/a-falcons-centric-look-at-the-2018-nfl-draft-pass-rusher-edition

Nice job on the article.  For reasons totally unrelated to football, the name that jumped out at me was Arden Key.

His father, Arden Key Sr., used to sit beside me in Algebra II class at Lakeside Highschool in 1985.

Not a great Algebra II student.  Helluva basketball player though.  Blast from the past for me.

I just realized I got my Lakeside Highschool student athletes mixed up.

Arden Key was in my grade when I was at Lakeside, but it was Greg Lester, who was a grade ahead of me and went on to be a starting WR on Georgia Tech's National Championship football team that sat beside me in Algebra II.

D*mn old age is getting me.

Davenport is another who is at risk of being gone by the time the Falcons pick. I hope a lot of quarterbacks and defensive backs practice, play and combine their way into a high draft position the next few weeks.

Some are saying top 10. Love to have him if by chance he slips. Love the quote on how he wants to play, “like to have the power of Calais Campbell, motor of JJ Watt, and speed of Von Miller.”

Especially Key.

Whatever his off the field issues are, Atlanta's a good place for him to keep himself straight.  It's where his momma is lol.

If you have good coaching, I believe in drafting "Unicorns". Take the player with exceptional traits and make him all-pro through coaching. If a Davenport or Key fall to you, you have to take them. Then take the best guard available in the 2nd. After that, pray that a serviceable DT falls to the third. In a perfect scenario (which I just pulled off on Fanspeak - lol), we'd get Key in the first, Billy Price (or Wynn/ Hernandez/Smith) with the 2, and Tim Settle with the 3rd pick.
