UCF will hang Championship banner

231 posts in this topic

The university plans to hang a 2017 National Championship banner at the stadium next season. They will also hold a parade in Orlando to celebrate.

This is more of a PR stunt by UCF with the backing of other Group of 5 schools. The group plans to put a lot of pressure on the NCAA to expand the playoffs.

If UCF wants to be in the discussion, they should play somebody. They act like beating a completely unmotivated AU team means something. Unless these kids are playing for a Natty, bowl games are pointless. Pretty much all of the players with any aspirations to go pro are more focused on coasting and avoiding injury than winning a meaningless bowl game. UCF was jacked for this game. I'm guessing most of the Auburn players were just ready to get it over with and go home. They were one game away from the playoffs. How motivated do you think they were to play in the **** outback bowl?

Didn't Bowling Green go undefeated several years ago? Yea, who cares? Just stop it.

Everyone wants a participation trophy nowadays. This is what our society has come to.

I wonder if the NCAA can do something since UCF did not in any way win an NCAA sanctioned national title. This is about the lamest thing I’ve seen in a while.

Thanks for showing up, Auburn.

I think the school actually loses some credibility with this mess.  They had an unbelievable season, celebrate your undefeated season, but crowing yourself national champions is beyond ridiculous.

uI can kind of see their argument, but it's not a very good one.

Auburn manhandled Georgia and Alabama at home, but got man handled by Georgia at a neutral site. If this game was played in the same location where Georgia and Alabama both played Auburn, Auburn beats UCF by 30.

Plus, the transitive property is so stupid in football. UCF>Auburn>Georgia+Alabama!!! By that logic, Alabama>Clemson>Auburn, and we all know that wasn't proven on the field.

UCF and the group of 5 is just trying to gain a place at the table. That's all this is about. We all know they'd have a hard time beating Alabama or UGA.

Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel is on Finebaum right now arguing UCF's case. His arguments include:

  • UCF beat more ranked teams than Bama
  • UCF beat Auburn, who beat Georgia and Bama
  • Everything is rigged against the little guy
  • UCF probably couldn't compete on a yearly basis with the elites but sometimes a special season with a special staff trumps all of that

He sounds angry.

No one thinks UCF would beat Bama. **** Bama has to pay schools like UCF to take an *** whooping.

UCF has also decided to pay the national championship bonus in the staffs contract.
