Drunken Minotaur Zebra
From the moment he was hit with that concussion to start the season I got worried. Then this one happened. Then the news he has been concussed since Carolina. This many back-to-back is bad - really bad. Does anyone know the protocol rules going forward? I honestly am more worried about the dude's life than I am football. He may need to retire if this concussion was as bad as it looked. I don't want to imagine this team without Free but its looking like that (knock on wood/praying it isn't...). What would we do? Could Coleman shoulder the load? MSalmon
It’s certainly an immediate issue. Is it career threatening? I would think only if he rushes back to early. I’d keep him out as much as needed to include the rest of the season, if necessary

slamee101
I’m worried about him and if he has to sit for a prolonged period then so be it. That said, I’m not willing to say his career is in jeopardy because of this. We have no idea. Davante Adams took one of the worst shots I’ve seen in a while and was in Dallas the next week playing. Duff_Man
As long as doctors clear him the league won't make him quit. The teams don't care and the player wants to play. He will be out there. Fans say sweet things like they are concerned but these players are just commodities. It would be on the player to call it quits. We know that's not happening. Steel City Falcon
Career threatening... I don't think so. As long as he is comfortable with taking the continued risk and he is cleared by the doctors, he'll continue to play. I do think he'll be out at least for the Seattle game, which is a big loss for the team.
Malachore
He's not going to retire based off of this concussion or the ones previous that's just silly talk. I'm not saying that he might not be out for a while but he's definitely not hanging up the cleats.
etherdome
I really like Freeman. I can't think of another Falcon that I like better. He is a man of character and a player with uncommon abilities. But, I am very concerned for this young man's life. His sudden sensitivity to concussions is alarming. Projecting forward, we can all expect for him to have subsequent concussions if he continues to play. And every concussive event increases his chances of CTE. We all want success for our Falcons. Heck, I am of a certain age that makes me worry that I will never see a Falcons championship. BUT, life is much more than football. If it is true that DF has been concussed multiple times this year, my suggestion is that Devonta take the rest of this season off and attempt to return next year. If he becomes concussed again next season, then I would come to an injury agreement and hire him as a coach. I like and respect Mr. Freeman for the man that he is. I want him to have a happy and healthy future. No football team's success is worth more than that.

notthatcool
Two (diagnosed) concussions in a season is pretty substantial. Especially at the RB position.

The negative is that this really can't be avoided since no helmet can protect the brain from bouncing around inside the skull during collisions. SkerFalcon8710
This is the exact issue me and @caponine talked about in preseason when Freeman got a mysterious concussion a week after signing a big contract.. we are on the hook for 3 years with Freeman.. we have to put him on IR the remainder of the season if we have any hope of having him play a full 16 next season... people need to accept that Freeman Should be and is probably done for this season.. 2 concussions in 12 weeks as a running back is nothing to play with.. he needs to be given the LK 59 treatment 1 more concussion and that could be a wrap from Freeman’s career heres to hoping coleman can stay healthy the remainder of the season

Peyton
I hope people saying this are just being alarmist. Otherwise the Falcons are guilty of the worst contract extension in NFL history.

If this were to end his career, the Falcons just gave him a $22 million severance check and put themselves in cap ****. But I think that is all way premature. I have t even checked the cap implications. In my opinion that’s why you don’t overpay rbs. They get hurt and very few are truly able to have Long productive careers. Jahvid Best had a history of severe head injuries before he ever entered the NFL, including in back to back weeks in his Senior season. I just looked at the second one where he landed on his head and it knocked him out cold. It looked like he was dead. I hope Best isn't a good comparison to Freeman. octoslash
There was nothing dirty about that hit yesterday. In fact, Freeman is the one who lowered his head. Drives me nuts the way he seems to lead with his head so often instead of rotating his shoulder.
