FalconFanSince1970
Well them Cowpokes are here. Will they break our hearts again? Even though we won the last two match ups, we are 10-14 against them overall and 0-2 in the playoffs. Long time Falcon fans remember the heartbreak. The first dose came in the 1978 playoffs. Our franchise's inaugural post season. We were fresh off our first playoff victory against the Eagles and headed to Dallas for the divisional round. We were hanging tough when we rocked Roger Staubach and sent him to the locker room with a head ache. On comes their punter Danny White who put a dagger through our hearts. Two years later in 1980 we had assembled a super squad led by Bart, WA31 and the head bangin gritz blitz defense. Favored to get to the Super Bowl that year, we jumped out to an early lead after a wild card bye, only to see Too Tall Jones jump offside and stumble into a TFL that turned the tide. In comes that punter again. He ripped through the gritz blitz and crushed our hopes with a last minute TD to Drew Pearson. The hurt lingered for 32 years until the farty niners put a deeper dagger in our 2012 NFC Championship hearts. Lord please don't let these Zekeless cowpukes waltz into the Benz tomorrow and end our season in week 10, before a national TV audience. Our hearts can't take much more. Rise mofos! octoslash
I remember those days well. Talk about heartbreak. The only good thing about 28-3 is that it was so absolutely devastating, it dwarfs all the pain from those other two playoff horrors against the Pokes. The 1980 collapse hurt me more than 28-3 because it was the closing of a window and the start of the worst run in franchise history. The awful 80s. The 28-3 debacle hurt less because at least I felt like it was the start of something lasting. After our first eight games of 2017 though, that may not be the case. The 2012 collapse against the niners was the worst of all of of em for me because I knew that window was closing and we were set up to win it all with a shaky Ravens team as a Super Bowl match up. I agree with you on the 2012 piece. That was their final opportunity and they blew it
octoslash
I'll tell you about the 2012 cluster***k. Not one time, not for a single moment during that entire game, did I think the Falcons were going to win it. I can't remember clearly exactly why, but I told everyone in earshot, all of them celebrating like crazy at halftime: 'Y'all are new here, aren't you? We are not going to the Super Bowl'. (I was the same way with 28-3. My wife was whooting it up and I kept telling her, 'This is far from over'.) I guess I've just been a Falcon lover so long, my intuition is rooted in loss, disappointment, and bewilderment.

putnam6
Yep the Cowboys were the first team I hated and it started in that 78 playoff game and was re enforced in 1980. All those years afterwards hoping Scott Campbell,Turk Shonert or any of the other various marginal QB's would catch lightning in a bottle. Now Birds have a MVP QB all the offensive talent they seemed to always lack and yet here they are at 4-4. With #2 playing like Tony Graziani, so yea as the season totters on the brink,as I have zero expectations of a playoff run would really dig a Falcons throttling of the Cowturds. RazorWing
That 28-3 loss was the most painful and humiliating loss I ever been through as a fan. The loss against the pats on Sunday. Opened up that wound again. I can understand fans jumping off their bandwagon there has been a lot of painful losses through the years. I try not to get too invested in this team. Just so I can keep my sanity.
middlegatv
Watching Georgia stink up Auburn even worse than it usually smells made me wonder AGAIN if I'll ever see a "local" team win another championship? I thought the Falcons were on the verge of their first Superbowl win over the next few seasons but now it seems like we've crashed again. I hope we beat the snot out of the Cowboys but I'm not feeling good about it.

achin2be
Last time they played Sunday night I was staying at the Ritz downtown. Just came in from the Georgia game the night before to a lobby full of Cowgirl fans. The highlight of the night other than the win was getting my Abraham Jersey signed at The Pony 3 hours after the game. His sister actually saw me wearing the Jersey and asked me if I wanted John to sign it... it took her asking me 3 times to realize she was serious. I glanced over to the bar and there was 55 sporting some Aviators. Edited November 12, 2017 by achin2be
FalconJim
Since I'm a "lifer" with this team, and has never missed a game (either on TV, or in person), I remember ALL the good times, as well as ALL the heartaches! There's been times I just didn't wanna keep up with this team, anymore --- just too painfully disappointing. Then they have a good season and actually make the Playoffs, and I'm "sucked in" again. I guess I'll be a fan 'til my toes are turned up, then, when I get to heaven, I'll be asking God if they have NFL Sunday up there ----

Especially for people like my pops who's a 91 year old fan since 66 who just got suckered into two $10K PSLs. He will likely have to get his rest in heaven like my mom, brother, best friend and countless other die hards who have gone on.
