Good stuff, but even more perplexing.  There was so much good football played in spots.

The leverages right here are perfect.  Even Reed who got bowled over got bowled over in the perfect spot to leverage the run...... and Neal at the end plays with that outside arm free.  Frustrating that this is what they're capable of but the end results aren't there.

There's my favorite concept again: Dagger off of play-action.  This is right out of Kyle's stuff from last year, right down to the stacked alignment.  Brilliant throw.  Proof to me that Ryan hasn't lost his confidence.    T

And this is what I was saying a few weeks ago after the Miami loss.  You gotta be able to make throws like this in the NFL.

I was about to start a thread taking a shot at Sark for this call, even though I thought he called a good game Sunday.  When I saw it the first time, I just couldn't understand on 3rd and 13, knowing you're going for it on 4th, why you wouldn't attack all three levels... then I ran it back a few times and noticed Free leaking out there for the checkdown with Peppers the only Carolina defender in sight.

This was a solid call by Sark.  Not good by Matt.  Maybe he saw the linebacker come on the blitz and though Free would have to stay in to block, so he bailed to try to make something happen.  But the play was there to get some yards.

Last year the offense was built around timing patterns and Matt getting rid of the ball quickly. It seems like, to me at least, that this year they are expecting more things to unfold with time and Matt isn't quite comfortable back passing like that. It's starting to feel like he's  back out of his comfort zone and it shows. Elite QBs need to be in that place so they can be more successful with out thinking too much.

I had a high school football coach relay that to me once. Both our kids were on the same pee wee team. He said that football needs to more about action and reaction. If spend too much time thinking you're gonna get hurt or make bad plays.

I believe another reason this offense has dropped off is because our RB's (Free and Cole) aren't averaging as many yards per carry as last season. This problem started with the Bears game on the season opener when our run game was really shutdown, and outside of Matt Ryan's big TD pass to Austin Hooper (which saved us twice for 10 pts) we didn't have much offense all day in a stadium we hadn't won at since 1983.

Who that's new offensive tackle again? Wes Schweiter? He's been struggling with the team so far. He's only gonna have to get better with experience. I just remember last year a huge part of our high powered offense was using Free and Cole a lot more not just with the running game, but in the passing game too. It seems like we haven't done that much this year, and receiver drops aren't helping at all.

and LMAO @Jerz at your new profile photo!

Strangely Austone hands Hooper is only credited with 2 drops on the season. I swear he had at least 4-5 so far. One at the Jets, one against the panties, and one against the phins I recall. He is an offensive blackhole who runs lazy routes and causes TO'ers.

MR2 is having a really bad year. I understand the blocking isnt all there, but his decisions are bad. That sack he took away on 2nd and 1 and the throw away on 3rd and 13 are especially bad. Shouldn't have thrown the ball when Hot Garbage hooper ran the wrong route on the interception as well.

That was all so pretty, and you could show Vic running all over us, the pressure on Ryan in the second half. The tired D by the end of the second quarter. And the #DoTheJulio drop. I'd rather have an ugly win than a beautiful loss.

This is what matters:

Panthers 20

Falcons 17

Goes in the "L" column

And DQ was mad for all of 3 seconds. I was there.

I love this these breakdowns. It's good to see where the plays break apart, and it's also really good to see the bright spots in a disappointing season. Grady is a total freak. Love seeing him tossing people around. And I can't believe how many fumbles Neal forces. He's been making his high draft pick really worth it.
